Good pick Champkind. I liked Okur a lot, but needed a wing anyways.
I really couldn't let this guy slip anymore. He can really score, and is only going to get better.
Dallas picks Wes Johnson
Wes is one of my favorites, though I'm a Cuse homer so take that as you will. But he's very versatile and I think he'd flourish pretty quickly on a better team than Minnesota. There are some questions about his ceiling as he's an older rookie but I think he's going to be a very solid wing at the very least, with All-Star potential.
I am doubtful on Wes Johnson having All-Star potential.
I think there is a slight chance of it happening but only a slight chance.
I don't think his ball-handling or shot-creation abilities are good enough to become a high level offensive player. I think he will more likely become a sweet shooting Trevor Ariza type (which would be a very valuable role player).
I actually felt Minnesota was a fantastic home for him because the Triangle offense would keep him involved offensively, give him more touches and movement, than he would have been on most other team's offensive systems. I thought and still think that that offense offered Wesley Johnson the best opportunity to develop his offensive skill-set.
Although, Minny have screwed it up by playing Beasley at the three. That should be Wes Johnson's role and Martell Webster or Corey Brewer should be at the two alongside him. Allow him better opportunity to take advantage of his quickness and slashing.
That decision, starting Michael Beasley @ 3, has hurt Wes Johnson's productivity in a big way ... and seriously harmed Minnesota's defensive capabilities.
