The Indiana Pacers select Tyrus Thomas.

The player I am still high on, but will forever stay away from in CB drafts because of how down on him CB'ers are.

I even thought you were down on him, Who?
Yeah, I was worried about too. I fully agree that Tyrus is underrated on this blog.

I have been quite complimentary of Tyrus Thomas over the past year or so.

However, before that, I liked him as a role player but wasn't high on him becoming a star player ... maybe you are remembering that.

--------------------------------------------

I was hoping he'd be available in free agency last summer and that Danny would target him but Charlotte tied him up to a big money instead.

I thought Tyrus would be a great complement to Kendrick Perkins in a post-Garnett era because of his quickness and defensive range at the four in combination with Perk's brute strength, post presence, toughness and interior D. They'd be one heck of a defensive combination. Help keep the Celtics' defensive backbone fairly intact post KG.

Still, something I'd be interested in seeing Danny pursue sometime further down the road. Or a player with a similar defensive skill-set as Tyrus. Concerned about Perk playing alongside a sub-par athletic / defensive four.

Interesting.  So, I assume that makes Smith the PF and Rashard the SF?

whichever makes the most sense dependent on match ups.  They are both pretty flexible.  Helps with rebounding though, and I think Deron should be able to set Smith up for some easy looks.

I think it is beneficial for both teams

You picking up an early 4th also helps.

Yes. That was the harder part for me, but it had to be done. Josh Smith is a good player, but after giving up Brandon Jennings, I had no go-to scorer.

Kyle Lowry, Landry Fields, Serge Ibaka, and Andrew Bogut are all talented and up and coming players at their positions, but without a leader and a guy to tie it all together, they're just pieces.

Can GMs please check the draft board to make sure the listed picks are accurate?  (For whatever reason, we had the last pick as belonging to Minnesota, rather than OKC, for instance.)

I like it for Milwaukee too. Smith is not a go-to guy. Pierce is.

There has been a trade:

Minny Trades: Paul Pierce, 5(22)
Mil: Josh Smith, 4(7)
Great trade for Milwaukee. Gives their offense a major boost which they badly needed. They were on track to have a bottom five offensive squad with those starters so even with their incredible defensive strength ... they'd still only be a 45 or so win team.

Paul Pierce gives them a talented defensive player at the three to go with their four other quality defenders who are near the top of the listings at their respective positions ... so they'll still be an exceptional defensive team and have major improvements offensively.

--------------------------------------------------

I am unsure of the deal for Minnesota.

I liked where they were going with their small ball lineup initially but was worried about their choices at the five position thinning. Not much quality left on the board for a team that needed an impact defender in the middle. Plus, I didn't like the Prince for Afflalo swap. I thought Prince's defensive versatility was a better fit for the small ball lineup to function at a high level defensively.

I think adding Josh Smith gives them more protection if they fail to land that center. If that happens, they'll be in a much better position.

I hear ya, I think that Smith gives that extra defender and rebounder and somebody that will get alot of easy looks with deron running the show.  Also I liked the Idea of having two guys that can penetrate in Deron and Smith and having some knock down shooters on the wing.  (thank you marc jackson)

Also, I think you are higher on prince at the two guard than I was.  I think Afflalo is a better fit, younger, and an elite defender who is a better 3 point shooter.
