Also, it seems that the one thing he has going for him is that he's very talented. Seems like he can make his millions outside of the NBA.
Exactly. I think the NBA needs to learn that lesson.  Colleges may learn it at some point

You go to Minnesotta in a heartbeat?  Hmmmm.  Anywhere else you go in a heartbeat? Siberia maybe?

Juuuuuusssssstttt kiddin. Well. No I'm not

For an NBA contract?  Yes.

Get in the NBA and then work your way out to a place you want to be.  Until you are there and unhappy, why would a lotto team trade you?  Your value will come from playing on the court.
I just think that Josh Childress somewhat proved that the NBA doesn't hold a monopoly on highly desirable places to play

I can't help but notice he came back when he got his contract.

If he wants to stay in the other leagues, that's fine.  Have a nice life over there and be happy.

If he wants to play in the NBA, deal with the team that drafted you.
Jerry Stackhouse made it clear to the Clips not to draft him.  I don't think Yao would have gone to Minny.

Minny might have not wanted to draft a player that clearly didn't want to go there.

They pulled a Fran Vazquez.

That's great.

He entered the draft.  He got picked.  If he wants to come to the NBA, he needs to deal with Minn.  Minn has no need to trade his rights.  Rights to a player are worth so little in trades.
Well clearly he doesn't want to come to the NBA so it's moot.

What he did was the equivalent of putting your resume on monster.com and you get 4 calls from McDonalds, BK, Wendys, and Popeyes.  So you're like "I'll just stay at my mom and pop shop."

Actually bad example. It's more like only one call from McDs and they're like "You have to cook for us" and you're like "No I don't"

From what I read, he wants to come to the NBA if he can choose where he wants to go.

RIght. So I think it would be a bad idea for some team like Milwaukee to trade for his rights. Not that they would. They also got a pg who didn't play against NBA players till he came here.

Because he was drafted, just like everyone else.

I am sure Love didn't want to go to Minn.

But he is there.
People accuse me of apples and oranges around here all the time.

This is more like apples and pineapples.

Love was an unemployed college kid who grew up in the United States and had never played against anyone better than the other college kid.

Rubio is making a good handful of money in his native country and has played against the best in the world at the Olympics and in the 2nd best league in the world.

He's being honest. He's like "When I feel like leaving Spain to play in the north pole I'll let you know. Right now I'd be interested in these teams so if you can figure something out that would be great. Till then I'm good".

If there was a player that didn't need the Patriots and didn't want to play for them would you want them to use a first rounder on him?  I don't think I would

So you are saying Love could not have gone overseas and made money playing ball there?  They are taking US high school kids.

Minn owns his rights.  He needs to deal with them if he wants to play in the NBA.  Or he can stay where he wants.  The NBA isn't missing him.  The league is loaded with more talented PGs already.  (Paul, Williams, Rondo, Rose, Wall, Jennings to name a few)

I can't say that I blame him for playing this game... who wants to play for Minnesota??

KG played for Minny, K Love is doing it now... I'm sure there's A LOT of players drafted to teams they don't want to play for but they pay their dues (so to speak), play out their rookie contracts, and then leave the team as free agents. Rubio and his agent knew the rules of the system when he entered the draft and now that it hasn't worked out the way he wanted, he shouldn't just be allowed to bypass the system in place because he doesn't want to play in Minnesota. That's just ridiculous.

If the NBA allows him to come in as a rookie demanding where to play, it can create a dangerous precedent for future drafts.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

You mean the way it did with Stackhouse?  I half agree with what you're saying. I just don't think it's wise to throw away draft picks on guys that don't need or want to play for you

I have very little problem with anyone adding Rubio to the superloser watch list. I just think he's a happy well paid superloser.

Guys a joke!  You have a chance to play anywhere in the NBA you take it in a heartbeat.

Like Ginobili, Scola, & Sabonis did? There is plenty of money in Europe to make a lot of people think otherwise.

That's exactly true. The kid's stock is just going to go up in Europe as he becomes a star and a marketing tool, and with that, so will his pay.

If I was making plenty of money playing close to home in sunny Spain, I wouldn't go to Minny either.

Much like with Carmelo, or Grant Hill, or whoever, I can't get on Rubio's case too much.  If he wants to stay in Spain, I guess that's his right under the CBA.  I think it's better for the league if he plays for the Twolves, but if he doesn't want to spend the next 3 - 4 years of his life in Minnesota, I guess he's within his rights to give up the money and potential legacy that goes along with that.

Well, he doesn't want to stay in Spain. He wants to come to the NBA, as long as he can dictate where he goes. I think that's the issues most people have... He's not a free agent, and he hasn't proved anything on an NBA court, but he's saying he wants to play in NY, Boston, or Miami??
I doubt those are the only cities he is willing to play for. Just his favourites.

I can't blame anyone for not wanting to go to Minnesota. It's the least attractive city in the NBA and it's front office is a train wreck.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Lakers should go for him.
Fisher is at the end of the road and is going to need a franchise PG soon.
I bet he'd play for LA if they asked him.
Especially with gasol on the team- and what kid would say no to starting with kobe bryant?

Read that last line again. One more time.

Ricky Rubio wants to play in Boston, NYC, or Miami

Would anyone be interested in getting Ricky Rubio ? I am not sure he is a starter in the NBA anytime soon, but from the games I have seen on Spanish TV he seems to be pretty good at moving the ball up the floor and looking for the open man, similar to a Rondo type player (note I never said he is like Rondo). Would we trade a Nate and Baby for Rubio's rights ?

Why?  This kid has a ton of value, and no reason to rush it.  Players and agent control the NBA, and they can get players to where they want.  The kid is barely 20 years old, and he still has a lot of work to do before being much in the NBA.  It doesn't hurt him to wait it out another year or two (and make good money in Europe) and put the pressure on Minnesota to get something for him.

Anyways, I am sure his list is more flexible than those 3 teams, those are probably just ones he had recently mentioned.

As for being a career backup...not sure where you are getting that.  He will be looking to be a starter as soon as he can wherever he goes.

I think it was a joke since he listed Boston and he is not going to take the starting role from Rondo.

Yeah that is a weird choice in every way
