I'd be a little worried about Griffin's durability - remember he broke his kneecap last year.  High flyers eventually come to earth (with some rare exceptions) and some guys continue to be solidly productive, but few continue to dominate - I worry he could end up as a Larry Johnson, Grant Hill, TMac, Shawn Kemp, etc. etc. etc. in the long run

Rondo will keep getting better in my opinion - top 5 pg in the league without question right now

I think you have to keep Rondo because we have a shot at the title this season.

In a vacuum I think Griffin has a higher ceiling, big men just have a bigger impact. So I'd do the trade if the C's were at a rebuilding stage.

In a vacuum, out of a vacuum, current situation, rebuilding situation, I take Rondo. Griffin had season ending surgery to repair a broken Kneecap. I recall a big guy named Oden (ironically, also a number #1 pick)who had surgery to repair a broken kneecap also. Ask the Blazers how that one worked out.

Rondo, even given his aggressive nature has had nothing like Griffin's injury. Little nicks here and there, but nothing close to career threatening. He's pretty durable, relatively speaking.

For that reason, alone, I like Rondo. People mention ceiling. When Rondo's jumpshot is completely established, he could be a franchise player, a HOF, perennial all-star and sometimes MVP candidate. His ceiling is as high if not higher than Griffin. I can't see Griffin a whole lot better than he is now (Which is pretty darn good, I will agree.)

It's his rookie season!! Just cause he's having a great one doesn't mean that he can't or isn't going to get better

He had an injury that has ended (or negatively, tremendously impacted) more than one player's career. No thanks.

Too big a gamble. I keep Rondo.

Compared to an average-level player at the same position, a great PG can improve a team more than a great PF because a PG is in better position to elevate the play of average talent around them at the other positions.

In other words...

I'd rather have a great PG and an average PF than a great PF that depends on an average PG to get him the ball.

Keep Rondo.

I'd say you have to consider the circumstance.  At this moment in time, no, I would not do that trade.  We do not need a PF currently, and do need a PG.  We are trying to win a championship, not rebuild.

Griffin looks like he is going to be an elite player, but its too early to tell.  He rebounds and scores extremely well (and is on SC nightly for his highlight dunks), but he doesn't do much else.  I am not saying he can't, but who knows.  ESPN really seems to have influenced people to think that scoring a lot of points is the only aspect of basketball.  It is not.

Rondo, for all his flaws, is perfect for this team.  He has also proven that he can do all the other "little" things that make an elite player.  Scoring is an issue (possibly), but we'll never know until the big 3 retire.  This team is better served with Rondo distributing the ball, not scoring, a la Rose.

Blake Griffin for Rondo means no chance at a chip this season.

But, if we knew right now that we would not win another championship with the squad as it is now, I'd do the trade in a heartbeat and start over.

Not me.  Historically, having a great post presence has proved more important than having a top notch PG.  In choosing between bigs vs. guards, I'll take the dominant big.

I'd do this even this season provided

1) Griffin continue to be healthy
2) We trade for a decent pass first point guard (ridnour etc)

Yes,but i wouldn't trade KG...i would have to work both into the lineup.Blake's not ready to take you over the top yet.As much as he is looking good offensive, theres'some basketball he still need to learn before we start anointing him the best pf in the business.Rondo can be replaced.

In terms of this season if the trade went down I'd think Danny would be like "Yeah but we need Eric Bledsoe too or something" and then he'd check with his doctors and be like "So Delonte is going to be in good shape when he comes out the other end right".

If the docs say yes then I think he pulls the trigger on that.

Then he gets on the phone and calls New Orleans and Toronto and is like "Talk to me about Jarret Jack and Jarred Bayless"

And Ridnour. Danny would make another deal for sure, aka operation 'Cya Glen Davis' would be in full effect.

That said, I'm not sold remotely on the idea that Blake Griffin as the first big off the bench and a step down at PG does anything but hurt us this season.

And honestly, I'd trade another championship (or 2..I can dream right?) in a heartbeat for passing on a Rondo for Griffin deal that would jumpstart the rebuilding process faster than a speeding bullet.
