Another note: It is our communications technology that has probably made or will make the biggest contribution to the civilization of the world. The world is much less brutal at this time than in any time in recorded history.
And eja117, yes there was legislation for civil rights by some in the 'greatest generation', but legislation would have never been needed had racism not been prevelant in this country.
Our young people of this generation are more civilized and educated than any previous one.
Your first point is well taken.
Your more civilized and educated point....I...don't know.
I'm not sure the exact stats but if the the current generation has the highest divorce rates, homicide, suicide, incarceration, crimes against children yadda yadda then I might disagree with you.
This is sorta philosophical too.
The kids of the greatest generation didn't have to get metal detected on the way into school and didn't practice what to do in case another kid came into the building to shoot them the way kids do now.
On the other hand they did practice what to do in a nuclear attack.
Hard to say which is more civilized.
I do sort of agree with the mayor of Philly last week saying we're soft.
Case in point. In the old uncivilized and uneducated days a guy commits murder. They fry him.
Nowadays they let him out on parole and he kills again like last week in MA. Which group of people acted more civilized and more educated? The ones that fried him or the ones that let him out?
I'm not sure these questions have great answers
