OK. 4 weeks out, scheduled to be ready for playoffs.
Suppose things don't go as planned - what's our backup? Understand some folks want Sheed & some don't (I personally do). If we have to call up Sheed, is there a deadline of some sort? When would he need to be in uniform to be eligible and playoff ready?
More I think about this, the more I'm leaning to calling Sheed anyway.
they would have to cut someone from the roster and sign Sheed before march 1st for him to be eligible for the playoffs .
Actually they don't have to sign Sheed before March 1st. They can actually sign him any time before the playoffs. A player just has to be released before March 1, and since Sheed isn't signed to any team this doesn't apply to him. (Essentially this just means you have to be available to be signed before March 1st, which isn't a problem with Sheed since he's currently a free agent).
Just see February 2008, when Brent Barry was traded by the Spurs to the Sonics, waived by the Sonics, then Barry didn't sign back with the Spurs till March 24th. Or 2010 when Ilgauskas was traded by the Cavs to the Wizards, released, and then re-signed with the Cavs on March 23rd.
