There seems to be some question about trading at this point.

You cannot designate two of your own players to keep, and trade a third.

You *can* designate two of your own players to keep, and trade picks to someone else in exchange for one of their two keepers.

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

As I understand it, you keep two players.  Those players can then be traded after the 1st round ends.  Deal can be agreed upon before hand, but nothing goes through until after the 1st round.

Handshake deals, then, but still, trades are acceptable.

Yep.  That's why I put up my guarantee that if I agree to a deal with you before trades are allowed to go through, I will not back out if a better deal or the draft unfolds in a way I did not expect.

I don't know how these "hand shake" deals will work out if someone decides to pull out after the 1st round ends, before the trade is officially put in.

So just to clear up some confusion on my end - I have no control over the players on Clips team that I am chosing NOT to protect, correct?

And once the actual Draft begins next week, the players I left unprotected will/could be drafted by others, right?

Meaning - I can't trade, say - DeAndre Jordan as I chose, correct? I can only effect changes on the two players I chose?

Exactly. Unless you're the Kings, cuz that team can totally go rogue and do whatever they want

I think this post by IP and Green faith sums up the trade rules pretty well.

Specifically, I am trying to convince a GM that there is nothing against the rules by me trading him Vince Carter or Marcin Gortat for draft picks. In this scenario, neither player is a 3rd keeper for him, because neither of them started out on his roster.

Ya, it's not overtly complicated. You pick 2 players, and have 10-13 draft picks to do anything you'd like with them.

I don't know how these "hand shake" deals will work out if someone decides to pull out after the 1st round ends, before the trade is officially put in.

If somebody pulls out, the Commish isn't going to sign off on it.  Basically, it's like the handshake deal between Turkoglu and the Blazers.  Since contracts couldn't be officially agreed to, there were no consequences for the deal falling through.

yep. you guys can agree to any deals you want but they're not valid until after the 1st rd and if in that time one of the parties renegs that's a risk you take.

Because it's a slow workday, and I already have one offer on the table, I am officially fielding offers for Nash.

We'll be happy to keep him, but I am curious to see what kind of interest is out there.

I'd be interested to see what kinda offers you get here. I think if I'm a fringe contender I take a look.

If you want a former all-star with blown out knees just draft T-Mac.

I just have no faith he'll be able to ever be a high level player again.

I'd just keep Batum and Aldridge.

I don't think he'll play at a high level, but I do think he could really help out a team that's ready to compete. If I'm a team like Boston - in this excercise - I'd atleast consider giving up a first or second rounder.

*shrug* that's up to other GMs I guess. I don't think you can give up a high pick for a guy who just went under the knife though.

I almost think he makes more sense for a team trying to load up on youth, if it weren't for his salary. He'd have more time to potentially recover.

I was working out at the gym while watching PTI. I saw they were talking about Brandon Roy and as the piece ended Tony K said "Hey, he was a heck of a young player".

Still breaks my heart a little. Brandon Roy was one of the top 2 or 3 shooting guards in the league. Really hope he's back sometime.

He was, I honestly expected the combination of Roy/Oden/Aldridge to be contending by now when they first put that team together.

Aldridge is getting the results back on his hip X-rays today, BTW.

If anything happens to him, people will start jumping off bridges here.
