Sign me up. So basically this is like a fantasy draft, but for building a real team? What I'm trying to say is...are we focusing on a fantasy perspective, or a depth and balance, true team perspective?

Fantasy #'s don't mean anything, and honestly the scoring is nonexistent for this draft (but not for the bigger CB draft during the summer).

Basically you get a team, you pick the best two players for your gameplan (example, if you got the Sacramento Kings, you'd pick Tyreke Evans and probably Demarcus Cousins, and you'd have a 'future team' kind of strategy). and then you draft the players you think fit into your plan best.

Its just a fun exercise where you get to pretend you're a GM and try to improve a team.

Awesome. Ya that's what I was getting at when I meant true team perspective, just wasn't really wording it right. I'm game, sign me up.

I'll do my best - but if someone disagrees with my view I'll probably call them a h8r or talk about how stuuuuuupid they are

EDIT: BTW, for people who are joining I'm kidding.
I'm looking forward to it! I love to disagree and being 1 of the new kids I'm sure I'll have a fair amount of defending to do. Now if I can only get IP to hand me the keys to the Celts I can protect Bird & McHale and go after the Chief in round 1 :)!

You know it is just current players, right? Its not historical.

Example: If I was the Clippers, I'd pick Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon as my keepers, and I'd be selecting 6th overall from the players pool.

Yeah I was kidding about the Old Big 3. I would be plenty happy if you didn't get the Clips and I did, they seem to be 1 of the easier decisions.

Believe it or not though, getting a team like the Nets or something is pretty rewarding too.

I turned (at the time) Devin Harris, Courtney Lee, Chris Douglas Roberts, Yi Jianlian, and Brook Lopez into Devin Harris, Wes Matthews, Dorrell Wright, Luis Scola, and Brook Lopez, with Thabo Sefelosha, Omri Casspi, and Ersan Ilyasova on the bench.

Now my team isn't going to win any championships, but you get a real kick out of taking a last place team and fitting 'the right' pieces around them.

Eh.....

There's a second potential franchise player on the Clippers' roster, and his name is Eric Gordon

You may not know him, but the reality is that Gordon may be one of the five best pure scorers in basketball. I know, I know, "pure scorer" is kind of cliche, but there's really no other way to describe his game. The third-year guard is quietly having a breakout season, and deserves to be mentioned in the conversation of the top young players in basketball. The only reason he isn't is because Griffin's star has shone so brightly that Gordon has been overlooked, and that's a [dang] shame.

As it turns out, it's Gordon, and not Griffin, that leads the Clippers in scoring. He's currently averaging just under 24 points a game, putting him eighth in the entire league, ahead of guys like Dirk Nowitzki, Russell Westbrook and Carmelo Anthony. But if anything, that obscures just how good a scorer Gordon has been this season. Gordon is currently posting a true shooting percentage (which takes threes and free throws into account) of 58.3 percent and an assist percentage of 22.1, all while ending 27.1 percent of his team's possessions. In layman's terms, he is scoring while getting his teammates involved and without wasting too many possessions, all while shouldering the kind of scoring load superstars shoulder.

The ability to do all of that is more difficult than you think. For comparison's sake, here is a list of players who have posted seasons with a TS% above 58, a usage rate above 25% and an assist percentage above 20 in the past three years.

    * Manu Ginobili (all three years)
    * LeBron James (twice)
    * Chris Paul (once)
    * Deron Williams (once)
    * Eric Gordon (this year)

At the end of the day, I'd probably select Gordon. But I don't think you'd completely lose me if you wanted to take an athletic freak of a center who is (finally) starting to figure out how to play basketball.

I can't say I'd give any consideration to Kaman.

Trust Me, I love Gordon, think he is a hell of a player, but i think you can find alot of talented shooting guards in the league.  Not many Centers that can score the ball like Kaman when healthy.

Just give me the Bulls.

Boozer + Rose is pretty much an unstoppable combination.  Add a defensive center (maybe Eric Dampier), a small forward with range (Rashard Lewis?), and some role playing guards (Francisco Garcia?  Courtney Lee?), and you've got a nice team.  Maybe find some good role players, like Drew Gooden and Richard Jefferson for the bench.  That team wins 50 games.

The true coup de grace would be landing a true impact player to the bench who can also fill in as a starter (Zach Randolph would be a great fit).  Do all that, and you're talking championship, easy.

haha...TP Roy if it took you a good 10 seconds to get the joke. Double TP if you typed a serious response then read this and thought about the past summer.

EDIT: For those who don't know, Roy holds onto those losses like Scrooge McDuck holds onto gold coins:

Rondo2287 Kaman doesn't post elite offensive numbers for a center even when healthy, which he is not. He did take an elite number of shots on a bad team to score a lot of points however.

His career TS% is only .528, his assist rate is low even for a post man, and his career TO% is also pretty high. His highest ever offensive rating is 104.

There just isn't an argument that he's worth keeping at this point.

http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/k/kamanch01.html

He might be the 6th or 7th best player on the team if he magically returned to health right now.

Dwight Howard
Zach Randolph
Marc Gasol
Andrew Bogut
Pau Gasol
Andrew Bynum
Nene
Tim Duncan
Blake Griffin
Carlos Boozer
Al Horford
Al Jefferson

I think they're all better than Kaman offensively down low. I know not all of those are true centers, but Kaman just isn't remarkable on that end.

Hmmm, I that's the type of team I had last year -- Boozer and Williams with Granger, Battier, Hibbert, Bell, Ford, etc...
I definitely think the Salties should have faired much better in the playoffs that year.

You can throw the good numbers on a bad team at me, but I have watched him play on a regular basis for several years, he has solid post moves, good hands and good touch around the basket.  Its a shame Livingston's leg blew up because i think If Kaman played with a PG that could get him som good looks his percentages would go through the roof.
