This quote is from the Marc Spears' article that is discussed in another topic (but on another theme of the article) : http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/news;_ylt=AoPTbg6v26Ey3ybajt._xza8vLYF?slug=mc-perkinsceltics010311

Here are other interesting tidbits :

Quote
Perkins, 26, is from Beaumont, Texas, and figures to draw interest from the Rockets and Thunder. Still, he’d prefer to return to the Celtics, whose payroll for next season is already projected to be about $74 million, provided Allen and Shaq don’t opt out of their contracts.

“I will show that I’m back and there are no issues with my knee,” said Perkins, who is making $4.4 million this season. “I will have a bright future as far as free agency. We will see how this season turns out and how it goes from there.

What do you think? Obviously it means nothing to overreact to this kind of quote and it's the classic "I love my team but business is business" line but, still, do you think Perk will accept a reduced contract in terms of year or dollars with the C's, because he wants to win here, or will he take a bigger role and contract in another interesting franchise like OKC or Houston?

I must admit that Shaq and JO's presences are making me less confident that he will re-sign, although both have hinted at a possible retirement next year.

Of course, a lot will depend of Perk's health and role with the team after his return in February.

I think Perk is going to get as much money as he can...and well he should.  This could be his one chance at a bigtime payday, and I don't think he is going to pass it up.

I also don't think Danny is going to be willing to offer something close enough to the ballpark he could get on the open market, making it an easier choice for him to move on.

I really have no problem moving on from Kendrick if he asks for too much money.

He is a defensive center, albeit a very good one, but it makes no sense to pay a one dimensional player the amount of money Kendrick is likely to get in FA.

I don't question Perk's motivation to win this season, and he has a lot to gain by playing well, so I'm not worried about any of this.

A lot of worse and older Centers have gotten big money recently so I wouldn't be surprised in the least if he leaves us and goes somewhere where they overpay or pay more at least.  Rockets and Thunder are both very good guesses, I could see both of them making that move.  The Thunder especially would really benefit from having Perk.  They would be a step closer to contention.

All depends on his health and the new CBA.

It will all depend on how Perk performs in the 2nd part of the regular season and the playoffs. Danny would surely like to keep Perk but won't overpay. It might be another "Posey" situation wherein the player wants to stay but will opt for the higher paying deal elsewhere. I certainly hope Perk stays though. He and Rondo are best friends and should be vital cogs of the post big three Celtics.

I think OKC makes too much sense. Assuming they have room under the cap, I expect them to offer a pretty nice (6-8 mill range) three year deal. I could see Danny offering either a one year with a premium and team option or a longer lower deal (5 years at 5/6.)

The lockout and new CBA are huge issues and may drastically effect what options KP has positively or negatively. (Example if the MLE formula is changed to increase the yearly payments, but lower it to three years, he might be able to get a very nice deal from MIA.)

I agree with this which is why if Danny has a chance to land a superstar for Perk and/or Baby, he has to at least think about it, especially if Danny doesn't plan on paying those two the money theyll likely get on the open market. Bring Melo to Boston.

Boy I didn't consider Miami.  That is a pretty scary thought.

Miami would be his most likely destination, IMO.  If anyone thinks BBD thinks too much of himself Perkins can't be too far behind in the department.  I hope he plays as well as he thinks he's going to.  But even if he's back to top form he's worth no more than 6-8 million a year.  He probably thinks he's getting 10 million.  He'll be sadly mistaken.

You're not going to get Carmelo for Baby and Perk alone.  You'd have to include Rondo and we all know that's not going to happen.

By the way I'd rather have Paul right now on the C's than Carmelo.

I don't know if Perkins thinks too much of himself and what you are basing his salary expectations on.  In a world where Tyson Chandler makes 12 million a year it would not be that surprising if Perk makes more than 10, assuming he is healthy.  Teams overpay for Centers all the time.

How is Miami the most likely destination ? The most they could offer him is the MLE which Danny would match without question .

If Perk leaves , it will be because a team with cap room offers him 9 mil+ per year .

I think Danny might not match a full MLE type deal, its great value for Perkins but it also would constrain building around Rondo.

We have to see what the CBA ends up being....

Yeah, I think its too early to get too into this until we know what the CBA is.

But I do think no matter what the CBA is, Danny is going to set a value for Perk based on how he sees him on a post Big-3 team, and I have a strong feeling it will be lower than how other teams will see his value.
