I think BBD is just confused right now. I don't know how much attention he pays to the media/fans, but I think he buys into his own hype instead of staying within his limits. His midrange game has improved, and although it is barely any arc and still worries me, it goes in.
But he should NEVER be taking three's. KG - obviously a much smarter player - never goes that deep (except end-of-clock, desperation attempts) even though he is a significantly better midrange shooter.
To say I was upset with that 3pt-attempt would be an understatement, but it was what it was. What worried me more was his defense on the very next play that put the game out of reach. Within seconds he cost us a possession and then two points. Every player misses shots, but to break down on defense like that is inexcusable.
I understand BBD wears his heart on his sleeve, but he has to control himself, especially on the court and when taking criticism from his coaches or veteran teammates.
I could see this being a wakeup call for him (although I thought him speaking up during training camp and getting called out for it was a wakeup call, apparently not) OR it escalating to the point where he either gets traded or loses his spot in the rotation and ultimately isn't brought back next season.
He is an energy bench player. He is not Dirk, so he needs to stop replicating his game. No thanks on the contested long jumpers he seems to be falling in love with. He really can't create his own shot at all. He can't put the ball on the floor nor can bang inside. But he can get open for uncontested jumpers or easy buckets, and he can grab offensive boards.
But he is gonna be the odd man out soon enough anyway, so if we can weather the storm now until the ASB when we have 4 legit bigs, we will be ok with BBD getting spot duty where he can return to his actual role.
