I'll admit I'm not a huge fan of the Pro Bowl, or any all-star game for that matter, but they make for good conversation all the same. Three Patriots players were selected to the Pro Bowl this year, Tom Brady (leading vote getter), Logan Mankins and Vince Wilfork. I think Brady and Wilfork's selections are certainly appropriate but I have mixed feelings about Mankins considering he held out for half the season. Maybe if he missed half the season with an injury it'd be a different story but for a contract hold out? Meh.

To end on a positive note, congratulations to all the players who were selected, and lets hope that Brady and company will be in the Super Bowl so we don't have to worry about them playing in the Pro Bowl anyways. :)

EDIT: I should have clarified that Brady, Wilfork and Mankins were the three starters selected to the Pro Bowl, not mentioning the players picked for the bench.

Pro Bowl spots for the Pats:
Tom Brady
Vince Wilfork
Logan Mankins
Jerod Mayo
Devin McCourty
Brandon Meriweather

I don't understand the Meriweather selection *at all*, but the other five make a lot of sense.  I love that McCourty made it.

Pro Bowl voting is pretty much a joke to begin with. Its usually a popularity contest and old standbys usually stay Pro-Bowlers long past when they should be.

That being said, Brady & Wilfork are no-brainers here.  Brady is having an MVP season and Wilfork is having the best season of his career.

I agree that the Mankins selection is a bit of a stretch but its not a coincidence that this team ripped off a winning streak and switched another gear offensively when he returned.  One of the best linemen in the game, year in & year out.  Although, I'm not sure he's deserving this year.

The Pats ended up with six guys total, with McCourty, Mayo, and Meriweather also making it.

I was glad to see my boy Ndamukong Suh named a starter.  I was glad to see four Bears make the team, too.

Yeah, but when you think about it is Mankins more deserving this year than Vollmer or Kopen?  Different positions, but it annoys the crud out of me when guys like Pouncey of Pittsburg gets in over Koppen.

Or when guys like Jets get in over our guys. Our guys just beat them 45-3.  Why should a single Jet get in over a single Pat at the same position?

And Peyton is a fraud this year.  Granted that's nothing new

Yeah, I am baffled by the Meriweather pick as well. He plays for the top team in the NFL and played in the Pro Bowl last year so I think that earned him a ride to Hawaii again. McCourty was more than deserving and I hope he gets serious consideration for Defensive Rookie of the Year... though its probably going to Suh.

The bigger question is whether or not any of these guys end up playing in the Pro Bowl.

Hopefully the answer is "None".  ;)

Yeah, it's gotta be Suh.  That kid is a beast, and has had the single biggest impact of any rookie on either side of the ball.

Pouncey's had a heckuva year.  Kid's only a rookie too.  He's deserving.

It didn't seem that way when the Pats were kicking the Steeler's wazoo around

Pro Bowl is about individual accomplishment, not team accomplishment.

I'm not really sure what that has to do with anything.  Was Pouncey responsible for PITT's defensive breakdowns?  Was he facing Koppen head to head?

Game in and game out this season, the kid played extremely well at a very difficult position.  Now he's getting recognized for it.

Well wouldn't that mean that Koppen was responsible for Pitt's defensive breakdowns? But that that Pats defense didn't break down against Pouncey? Right?
