Yes right now JO sucks but if he starts to contribute you all will immediately change your opinion on him.  Injuries stink but if he can relieve Semih for the second half of the year and the playoffs there's no reason to complain. (unless you would have rather had Brad Miller)
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I've never seen a player get so much strife for being injured. You guys even gave Daniels crap for that last season and assumed he'd just go down this season. Actually, you probably still do. I coulda sworn Shaq was sitting out a few games due to his knee and JUST came back Sunday.

Anyways, Doc was very specific, if I remember correctly, in saying he wasn't going to let JO come back until he was good and ready to. If that means Christmas Day as opposed to last night, so be it. Either way, we get to see JO play before 2011. I don't know what the big deal is.

I'm glad Doc handled it this way and had JO rest his knee for this long instead of forcing him to play through this and having you guys say he doesn't hustle on the court like Rasheed. I thought THAT'S when you went down on a guy; him not hustling on the court and then have articles sprout up saying he "might" be injured but still playing, not when he's injured and thus his coach says he's not playing till he's practically good as new. Or am I misremembering something?

if he has flu-like symptoms i rather he stay as far away from the team as possible until he is healthy.Imagine if it spreaded throughout that locker room?...they are shorthanded as it is.

I don't think it's even a matter of how much he's injured.  It's more when he's "injured".  A person could set his watch to when this guy will show up...

Whatever team he ands on next year (I'm sure management will tire of his act by then and he'll either be released or traded) will get 70+ games on him.

This was completely predictable.

Agreed it's almost a disrespect to KG and the other bigs IMO

I wouldn't doubt KG was sending a message in his postgame a game back or so "we don't have enough bodies, but what could we do? we lace our boots up around here we work"

Yes, he could be on the Sheed plan--without actually entering games until he's ready to play.

I think he was saying that injuries, including Jermaine's, are not excuses for the team and NOT calling out Jermaine because KG is a team player and wouldn't say petty things like that, especially to the press.

Good thing KG doesn't attack fellow Celtics like people on this message board.  I look forward to Jermaine playing healthy and if he sucks then, I'll be the first to say it.  But to say he sucks without him really playing?  Geez.  A lot of crazy talk on this board, especially since the team is playing so well right now.

So what's the "when"? In the playoffs? I noticed he played 70 games last season, yet missed some games near the end before the playoffs started. Hmm, could it be that he was injured in the playoffs because he didn't rest that much during the season? And, let's apply the fact that JO DID ultimately play against us in the playoffs, although not great, as opposed to just sitting out. Do we want to risk him being that crappy in the playoffs again? Or do we want him healthy and ready for when it counts?

Or are you basing the "predictability" of this on the fight the Heat and Celtics had last season in the playoffs? And that JO still has some "bad blood"? Is that your basis for thinking this is an act? I don't think the Celtics bring him in if they were worried about that. I also thought Quentin Richardson was the main instigator, not JO.

Either way, that doesn't prove he's looking for an excuse to sit out games. Like I said, he could just as well play and not hustle, and "fool" us when Doc says he's playing hurt but toughening it out. He coulda just went to the Nuggets, who also apparently offered their MLE at the time. Or hey, why not stay in Miami with the "Superfriends" coming to town? In the end, JO chose the Celtics, the old Big 3.

And he's being called a tanker all cause he's injured. I don't get it.

So Jermaine has practiced a few day in a row and declared his knee ready for game action, at which point he says he doesn't feel well and missed last night's game with flu like symptoms.

My friends and I find this hilareous.  The guy is truly a joke.  We saw Paul play through sickness a week or two ago.  Jermaine looks for every possible reason not to play.  I'm glad he is not the ONeal with the "Man of Steel" tattoo.  He must be related to Baron Davis.
Doc said on Friday that he's not likely to play before Christmas, so I don't see what the big deal is.

WHEN PEOPLE DON'T FULFILL MY EXPECTATIONS I START TO HATE THEM.
At least you are honest.   ;)

Ther should be several new forum subsections:

The "We hate JO" section
The "Bring back 'toine" section
The "Bring back Gerald Green" section
and finally, the "Why doesn't Doc play the rookies?" section

But seriously, how many JO hate threads do we have to see? We get the point. There are several of you who hate Jermaine O'Neal and want to pile on at any chance you get. Yet, I don't see the same hate for a guy like Delonte, who can never say on the court.

Maybe it's because Delonte is getting paid peanuts (compared to JO) on a non-guaranteed contract.

For doubters out there, what sort of evidence would you need to convince you that Jermaine O'Neal's flu-like symptoms are a legitimate impediment to playing and not just some flimsy excuse?

Just history repeating itself.  Plays in contract years..."injured" in non-contract years.

This isn't necessarily true.

Since his trade to Indiana, J.O. has played in 10 seasons (not counting this one).  During those seasons, he's played 68+ games in 7 of them, while he's missed 31+ games in the other three (although in one of those, he was suspended for 15 games).

Since moving to Indiana, he's had two contract years, in '03 and '10.  In '03 he played in 77 games, and in '10 he played in 70.  In non-contract years, he's had seasons of 68, 69, 72, 78, and 81 games (along with his injury and suspension plagued seasons of 42, 44, and 51 games played).

In other words, J.O. has always been nagged by injuries in his career, but has had plenty of relatively healthy seasons even in non-contract years.  He's not a really durable guy, but he's also not as bad in regard to injuries as some suspect.

Anyway, his health will play a big part in determining whether this season ends successfully, so I he gets feeling right by the time the playoffs role around.
