Ther should be several new forum subsections:

The "We hate JO" section
The "Bring back 'toine" section
The "Bring back Gerald Green" section
and finally, the "Why doesn't Doc play the rookies?" section

But seriously, how many JO hate threads do we have to see? We get the point. There are several of you who hate Jermaine O'Neal and want to pile on at any chance you get. Yet, I don't see the same hate for a guy like Delonte, who can never say on the court.
Some people love to hate.  I'm sure 80% of JO haters are just lost Tony-haters looking for someone to replace the gap.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

I don't get it.

Do the Celtics need him to rush back?

Or do the Celtics need him back at 100%?

I mean I could understand this reaction if they were 500 during the last 14 games.

But they were perfect.  All wins.  No losses.

Let him come back when he is healthy.  There is no pressure to get him on the floor immediately.

Just history repeating itself.  Plays in contract years..."injured" in non-contract years.

This isn't necessarily true.

Since his trade to Indiana, J.O. has played in 10 seasons (not counting this one).  During those seasons, he's played 68+ games in 7 of them, while he's missed 31+ games in the other three (although in one of those, he was suspended for 15 games).

Since moving to Indiana, he's had two contract years, in '03 and '10.  In '03 he played in 77 games, and in '10 he played in 70.  In non-contract years, he's had seasons of 68, 69, 72, 78, and 81 games (along with his injury and suspension plagued seasons of 42, 44, and 51 games played).

In other words, J.O. has always been nagged by injuries in his career, but has had plenty of relatively healthy seasons even in non-contract years.  He's not a really durable guy, but he's also not as bad in regard to injuries as some suspect.

Anyway, his health will play a big part in determining whether this season ends successfully, so I he gets feeling right by the time the playoffs role around.

Good post Roy and good stats.  I doubt it keeps the haters from hating though.  Wouldn't want to acknowledge the truth after all...

I was about to say this.  Once we lose a game JO will become last year's Glen Davis while everyone will be begging Doc to go back to Semih (Sheldon).

Tom Brady doesn’t hang out with quitters.

(I don’t actually think J.O. is a loser… but i don’t think Tom Brady would hang out with him.)

This is all silly.  People are mad now, but just wait until he has a few good games.  The tune will change dramatically.

I also can't wait to have 5 healthy big men.  It's going to be such a luxury going into the playoffs knowing that our big men can always be aggressive, knowing that there is plenty of size on the bench in case anyone gets in foul trouble.

We truly can have a "no layup" policy and not get burned with foul trouble.

The MLE-range guys this year were:

Travis Outlaw (5 years)
Drew Gooden (5 years)
Mike Miller (5 years)
Channing Frye (5 years)
Amir Johnson (5 years)
Josh Childress (5 years)
Al Harrington (5 years)
Linas Kleiza (4 years)
Steve Blake (4 years)
Luke Ridnour (4 years)
Hakim Warrick (4 years)
Anthony Morrow (3 years)
Brad Miller (3 years)
Ronnie Brewer (3 years)
Randy Foye (2 years)
Jermaine O'Neal (2 years)

Even with his injury issues, I'd rather have J.O. than every player on that list other than Morrow, and *maybe* Miller.  Based upon team needs, and the fact that Shaq wasn't a probability to sign here, I still think J.O. was the right choice.

Of that whole list, only Foye would have worked for the Celtics because they were not going over two years.

I willl probably consider Frye and Harrington too. I sitll thing JO fits the mold better, but those two are waking up this year and not only stat wise but with more intelligent ball
