The thread is a question to all if he is likely going to be a bust [...]
Not unless there are devious Internet Ninjas at work, since the thread title says "Is Avery Bradley destined to be a Bust?!" over here.  "Destined" means pre-determined, aka certainty, a sure thing.

The answer to that question, is an emphatic no.  He is not destined to be a bust.  He may be, or he may not be.  With the long list of asterisks that come along with his (public) performance so far, it'd be a fool's errand to extrapolate too much of his future from it.

This pretty much answers the OPs question. No he is not destined to be a bust. Any other response is wrong. Will he be a bust? maybe. Will be he an all star? maybe.

Actually, you can take the original question and answer "maybe" also.
It takes me 3hrs to get to Miami and 1hr to get to Orlando... but I *SPIT* on their NBA teams! "Bless God and bless the (Celts)"-Lady GaGa (she said gays but she really meant Celts)

Remember everyone, this is a 19 year old who didn't have a particularly great freshman year.  Did we reach on him a little? Probably, but he still has a lot of potential.  I don't want to label him as a Gerald Green type player quite yet.  At the worst, I think Avery Bradley playing a Tony Allen role in the next few years is not out of line.  He's very athletic and a very good defender.  He is NOT a point guard nor will he ever be.  If he's going to make it in this league it will be as an off guard.  Another thing to note, is Avery Bradley wasn't even expected to get any playing time for the Celtics this year.  This is a year which Bradley would be in the NBDL, but we have injuries to Delonte and Rondo and we are.  We just need to be patient with him.  I'd rather have Bradley as one of our last guys on the roster then someone like Scalabrine who we know is garbage and will always be garbage.  At least Bradley still has a chance to become a good NBA player.

He played pretty well last night. It's obviously far too early to predict what kind of player he's going to be. After all, Doc's done wonders for another athletic, young guard who struggled at college in the wrong system.....

PLAY HIM, before you BUST him.....Start the kid, get him in there. Not just garbage time, that reaaly adds up to nothing. Play this kid with the starters, let him get the confidence of playing with the best in the league. Guys who know how to set him up, roll to a pass, set a good screen, give him some assists.

Garbage time is vs the less-good players, in an "everyman for himself " environment. That really helps no one. When you play with good players, you rise to their standard. Likewise the same with scrubs.

NOW is the time to put him in. With all the injuries, and the time of year. Play your new guys hard until the allstar break. See what you have as back up players. Showcase them in case of needed trades.

May be a confidence thing. I think D league would be better for him.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Send him to the D-League now and give him some burn over there. He's still way too raw to be put in already.

2019 CStrong Historical Draft 2000s OKC Thunder.
PG: Jrue Holiday / Isaiah Thomas / Larry Hughes
SG: Paul George / Aaron McKie / Bradley Beal
SF: Paul Pierce / Tayshaun Prince / Brian Scalabrine
PF: LaMarcus Aldridge / Shareef Abdur-Raheem / Ben Simmons
C: Jermaine O'neal / Ben Wallace

I am sure that is what they want to do, but they just can't afford to with West and Rondo out.

Huh?  Its only a 1 way street when they players are no good.

Bradley needs to play, and he needs to gain confidence.  That is not going to happen in the NBA, because right now, he is not an NBA quality player.  He needs the D-league badly.  And if he never comes back...well, that just means he was never meant to be an NBA player.

It is amazing that people here can judge the quality of a player by seeing him on the floor in a game for barely 4-5 minutes a month.

I agree that we can't judge what he is going to be.  However, in the 4-5 minutes per game he has been getting the last few games, I think it is absolutely reasonable to judge that he is not yet ready for NBA rotation minutes, and therefore is better off going to the NBDL, where he can play rotation minutes without hurting the team, or his own confidence.

Okay, HARDLY anyone comes back from there, even though there are some very good players there. For Bradley, all rookies need minutes in the game to develop an NBA game.

Thank you all for a real good laugh!

The kid is just 19 and missed all of pre-season and has had what, maybe six practices? In addition, he is being taught to play point guard which is never a quick process when it isn't your natural position.

You are actually making Rick Pitino look patient when he traded Chauncy Billups after half a season!

Bradley has a ton of talent. He plays excellent defense, and with his speed will be able to penetrate at will or get of his mid-range jump shot (which is actually supposed to be a good one).

Just give him time to learn the position, what the team needs him to do and then get comfortable with it. Everything I have seen or read indicates that he will be well worth the wait.
