Steve Nash is one of my favorite players in the NBA; he's also a really great guy who's never quit on his team despite the many head-scratching cost-cutting moves they've made over the past few years, allowing his team to go from a near-contender to a joke.

Now the Suns are clearly done even really contending for a playoff spot.  Steve only has a couple years left in his career, and that's being optimistic.  Steve, a two-time NBA MVP, deserves a legitimate chance to win a ring, even if it's in a diminished role.

So let's trade Steve Nash!  The question is, what are some realistic destinations where he might end up?  What teams are in need of a player of Steve's talents who have a chance to win (at least a playoff series or two if not a title) in the immediate future?

Personally, I'd like to see him find his way back to the Mavs.  Jason Kidd is still a good player, but I think Steve is clearly better at this point in their respective careers, although Kidd is still a better defender.  If Kidd and Nash reunited it could extend both of their careers.  The main downside is it would make Dallas especially vulnerable to quick, penetrating point guards...but that's kind of already the case.

I don't know.  What do you think?  What team would be a good fit for Steve?  Assume, of course, that the Suns are looking to trade him (and they should be...they owe it to him).

The Hawks.

Hawks Trade: Mike Bibby, Jamal Crawford, 1st round pick
Suns Trade: Steve Nash, Grant Hill, Channing Frye

Why for Suns?
-If this new "so sorry about the whole Hedo thing" move goes to crap like it probably will, they'll need to rebuild. This trade effectively takes Nash's salary off the books after this season, and it gets them out from under Channing Frye's overpayment, keeping all contracts under 2 yrs.

Why for Hawks?
Bibby is a pretty bad starting PG now, and Steve Nash is a pretty good one. The Hawks can't seem to utilize their athletic squad in a way that translates to wins, especially against good teams. Nash can do that. Grant Hill will also bring a steadying influence to the lockerroom, and a much needed backup multitalented wing player to help keep the offense consistent even when Johnson is out. On top of that, Channing Frye will really stretch the floor, allowing Atlanta to toy around with their lineups in the frontcourt.

The Suns would need to effectively give up on the next 2 years, but that ship is coming to port anyway.

The Hawks lineup would look like this:

Nash/Teague
J Johnson/Hill/Jordan Crawford
Marvin Williams/Grant Hill/Josh Smith
Josh Smith/Al Horford/Josh Powell
Al Horford/Frye/Zaza

That's an 11 man rotation that really makes the competitive.

I don't see how Nash and Kidd together makes sense. Why have 2 guys whose main skill is so similar? Teams want complimentary players.

It would  be a coup for Boston, but it is unlikely. The Suns will know they're giving up probably the most popular player in franchise history for very very little, the season following the summer they gave up their second best player for literally nothing besides a trade exception.

Even the trade I put above from the Hawks is incredibly unlikely, and Jamal Crawford is 10x the asset that Nate Robinson is.

Maybe something like Felton+Wilson Chandler could get it done..or something of the sort. You need young, exciting prospects.

NY gets Melo,Nash, and Frye

Denver gets Eddy Curry,Landry Fields,Wilson Chandler,ARandolph

Phoenix gets Felton, JR Smitha and Ronny Turiaf

Add in draft picks where needed.

Knicks becomes serious contenders with a sick lineup of Nash,Azabuke/RogerMason,Melo,Galonari,Amare. Offense would flourish and the Melo/Amare combo could create some actual D.

Denver loses the headache of Melo-drama, while still ending up with a good package of talent with Fields and Chandler plus Randolph can help with their size issue with injuryprone bigs.

Last,Phoenix gets a young backcourt combo of Felton and JR that can still compete with now Vince Carter,Pietrus and Gortat. Add in Turiaf to play along side Warrick.
Can't stop, Rondo!

Just please not to the Lakers.  The only time I want to root against Nash is when he's playing the Celtics.

Raptors? He would work well with Bargnani…

I don’t know how it’d work. Maybe involving Peja’s expiring, maybe Jose..

All i know is that Nash would love to play in Canada, and this lineup is pretty decent

Nash, Derozan, Weems, Evans, Bargnani.

Just thinking aloud.

The Raptors aren't winning anything anytime soon, not even with Nash.

I would love to see Nash go to a contender... However, I dont see any contenders looking for a point guard. The point guard position is becoming pretty solid. Its funny, the best fit I see is actually the Lakers. Scary though there.

Here is the scary thought:

Lakers give: Andrew Bynum
Suns Give: Steve Nash, Robin Lopez

Works for money, pretty fair trade, both teams get what you'd think they want..Lakers get a championship worthy PG and defensive big to help the rotation, Suns get a franchise cornerstone center (when healthy).

Bynum's ability to stay healthy is the lynchpin there, but it makes a lot of sense.

No reason they would ever trade for broken Bynum.   Dude has always had health issues.

I have read and heard its his choice to stay in Phoenix this long. However i can see Dallas as being a good landing spot for him to be on a contender. They are playing good help defense as a team most nights and can cover up a lot of his deficiencies on the defensive end.
