Rivers has already designated Nate as the starter - and Nate has been doing a great job.  When Delonte comes back, he can back up Nate.  Both Rivers and players (Pierce, Allen) have emphasized that losing Rondo has no more significance to them than losing a body, apart from his knowledge of the plays.   The tension between Rondo and the coach and the Big Three (not anxious to become the Big Four) has been obvious, and Rondo has apparently not exactly been happy.

So, hey, if the Celts really think that Rondo is just another guy, now is the time to trade him, while other folks in the league are under the delusion that he is already great point guard, with potential that still hasn't fully unfolded.  We can surely pick up a decent big and maybe even a journeyman pg for Rondo.

Thanks for the laugh ;)

Looks like the blog has been infiltrated by a fan of the Heat or the Knicks, hoping Danny will do what they'll be unable to do in the playoffs.

Why do you think all these other teams are trying to make moves?  It's because they know they currently don't match up favorably with the Celtics.  So why change what we have when we're on pace to win 70 games.  Realistically the C's do not have much in the way of trade assets regarding young players.  And when everyone is healthly, I'd say the top 9-10 core players on this team are not touchable.

Stand pat because there is no pressure.  Just get healthy and they will be the favorites to bring home #18.

I don't think Danny or anyone on the Celtics feels any pressure to make any major moves this season. If there was a time, it was last season, and it was moving Ray.

The biggest move I think you might see Danny do is dropping one of Wafer/Harangody for another big from the D-League.

agreed.
and btw i like your quote "a mans gotta have a code"
that's Omar from "The Wire" correct?

I don't think any move that involves bbd is going to happen. we're in it to win it this year so no way we move our 6th man of the year candidate. I believe that the brain trust is willing to let him go for nothing at the end of the year if it means another run at the ring.

i can guarantee, and will bet all my chips, that rondo is here for the long run. how many other player in the league look like the best player on the court when facing lbj?

if we add a player it will prob come through another mid season buy out. peja, who is rumored to be a buy out candidate, would be an ideal pick up.

a bench with bbd, west, nate, 2 o'niel's 'quis, peja and erden is ridiculous.

  • Another undersized Celtic...
Wow! This is the first time since '07 that I've seen everyone on this blog so positive--not even 1 post playing devil's advocate and saying we're over confident. Nice! Even though I started the thread I don't believe anything major will happen, other than filling Wafer's spot with a veteran if the right one comes available, maybe with someone like Peja, or another big if Semih's shoulder gives out. But even that seems unlikely after last year with the Finley experiment. (pretty much the same guy now).

if the team is 100% healthy come playoff time, we're stacked and dont NEED to make a move.

but if there was one ideal move (that could possibly happen) is if james posey gets bought out and we can bring him back (cutting wafer).

the top teams all have tweener guys who we struggle to match up with.

lebron is too big for pierce and quisy has zero chance to hold his ground on him.

same with rashard lewis (tho doesnt seem like he does much of anything these days).

and lamar odom. altho im curious to see how kg matches up with him now that hes healthy.

im not saying it has to be posey, but somebody of that body type, like a tayshaun prince. i cant think of any other names, but are there any players like that who could be available? somebody with size like pierce (or even bigger) to guard 3-4s?

Ainge will be active, but not out of pressure.

He always talks to other teams to see if he can improve the Celtics.

I see a small move for a strong reserve swing man, but nothing out of the starters or top reserves.

What pressure?  They have the second best record in the league, and by far the best in the East.  They also will only get better as they get guys back from injury over the next few months.

Let me pile on here:

What pressure is there to cave into?

- They have one of the three best PGs in the game
- Their Big Three are all playing like they are in their late prime and not in their mid thirties.
- When healthy they have the best depth in the league
- They are getting a Sixth Man of the Year caliber year out of Glen Davis
- Nate and Marquis have been playing good solid ball in their positions and have stepped up repeatedly when needed
- Their rookies have all shown bright spots and gotten a little run
- JO looks to be practicing and have a return soon, Rondo will be back early January, Delonte is talking a late January return and Perk a mid February return.
- Meanwhile they have the best record in the conference, the second best in the league, the second best point differential in the league and are on a 12 game winning streak and they look to have only two tough opponents in their next 10 games and one of those games is at home.

Exactly what pressure is Danny under to change anything?

The current pressure comes from finding the remote to watch the Magic try to find enough basketballs for their new collection of volume shooters, and the Heat try to find a point guard and a center.

I'd trade Perk and Bradley for Oden.
Not with Oden out for the season.

The Celtics are too close to a title to take that risk. Maybe sometime in the future.

I think Perkins' return is only going to cause the C's chemistry to be messed up. Shaq, when healthy, is the clear starting center on this team. Big Baby has earned his minutes and I think Semih has earned a few too. That leaves JO and Perk fighting for the rest. When everyone is healthy, I see problems. Trade Perk and Bradley for Oden and hope/pray for the huge upside.
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

Semih will be limited to garbage time when JO and Shaq return.  When healthy, JO is a beast on defense and if he can get his shot going, he's going to help a lot.
