  • It's all about the TEAM!
Did anybody else see the Heat act like FOOLS every time they made a shot last night? ESPN broke away a couple times during the game and we witnessed Wade making swimming motions and Lebron flexing his muscles. And this was early in the game baskets.

The Celtics showed class for 47 minutes and 59.6 seconds and hung tough down for most of the whole game with a depleted group of guys against a jazzed up team playing ball in front of their rabid fans giving us the business.

When Paul Pierce hit that shot and celebrated I was glad he was on our team, because I was screaming and shouting and jumping up and down and pumping my fist like Michael Jordan beating Cleveland at my tv when he hit that shot. My wife had to calm me down because I wasn't being too classy at home.

I FREAKIN LOVED IT!!!

The only reason I would have a problem with it is because I would be fuming if someone from an opposing team did the same thing in Boston.  Although I would be most upset about the loss in general, and that would just add to it.

But I was a little worried that the refs were gonna whistle him for a tech, since it could've been construed as taunting.  He looked like he was gonna jog right into the Knicks huddle.

But no matter what you think of what Pierce did, nothing compared to the embarrassing display put on by Spike Lee after Stoudemire hit that shot.

I agree with this.

Paul Pierce, for better (mostly) or for worse, likes him some drama and always has.

People who like drama like to perform in New York, New York.

New Yorkers like that performers want to perform on their stage. Having someone elite they can really boo gets them as whipped up as having someone they can really cheer... just ask Reggie Miller. (This is basically true of any good sports town, but there might be an extra performance/drama angle in NYC.)

He gave the fans what they came for.

And when the show was over, he bowed gracefully  ;D

LOL.  Someone please post the bow. :D

I don't begrudge players celebrating after a big play like that. I certainly celebrated at home, and I was just sitting on my couch nervously.

I wasn't crazy about it, thought it was a little obnoxious personally, but have no problem with it.  That's how sports stars are, it makes them who they are, and similar to what another poster mentioned, I get obnoxious when I beat a friend in a video game sometimes.

My issue was that the game wasn't over yet, there were still .4 seconds left.  Derek Fisher anybody?  Andrew Bogut?  Not that I thought there was a realistic chance that we'd lose, but it was still possible and if we miraculously did... PP would have looked like the ultimate fool and I really mean ultimate.

I wouldn't go as far to as it was classless; players are going to celebrate.  But I do agree with the original poster that .4 seconds is a lot of time and I think the antics would have been more appropriate if the entire clock was used.

I fail to understand this whole "class" issue....didn't know celebrations required class...too many bow tie wearing, champagne sipping people here, I guess. We can't just let players be themselves even when they make a good play....we HAVE to montior and comment on every move they make...sorry, it just makes me angry..all this class/classless debates on this blog.

TP. Great point, couldnt have said it any better.

Leave class out of sports, the same people claiming PP has no class are probably fans of boxing as well, where grown men fight each other like barbarians.

Its sports, not a presidential dinner.

It's good to see Pierce having fun, even if SOME people could apparently care less.  ::)

Ya this didnt really bug me.  There is nothing wrong with getting excited after making a shot like that.  Paul is not JD Drew.  He has a pulse.

Especially after the way this game went, they were battling back the whole time, getting the game from 10 points down to 2 and then having it shoved back up to 10.  To finally get over the hump in the last minute of the game had to be satisfying for a team that never quit.

This was also paul's first stand out game in the past week or so, so I am sure he was more excited to be back to his old self again.

Also did watching the sportcenter highlight this morning bug anybody else?

They didn't show the celtics making a shot untill like 3 minutes into the highlight.  Somebody watching the highlight without seeing the game last night would have thought it was a blowout.

A nod to Reggie?

Very appropriate in NY!

NY was chanting "Boston sucks" all night. I wish he'd gave them the bird then drop trou and mooned them.

[dang] right! TP for you. Paul responded to the crowd and did it with class imo because he did not flip the bird, flash any gang signs, or use any other lewd gesture. What do people want, it's an athletic competition, not a presidential debate. Speaking of which, he showed more class than some of the candidates have during the last few presidential debates.
