In the aftermath, Karl, a cancer survivor after battling throat and neck cancer last spring, expressed disappointment in Garnett's action, telling the Denver Post: "If Kevin and I were close friends, I'd probably call him up and say, 'I don't think that's right.' But I also believe that competition makes us do things when we don't have our total mental morality in line."

...

"I just went over and, I know there's some speculation [about what Garnett said], and I'm not going to get into it, you all know what I'm talking about," said Garnett. "I went up to him as a man and what I said is that I had nothing personal toward him nor any other cancer patient that is out there struggling and dealing with life situations. I wanted to say that to him, man to man. I was going to do it before the game, when the [shot] clocks and stuff was messed up [delaying the opening tipoff], but I wanted to get the game out of the way, and then approach him."

The exchange was brief and Celtics coach Doc Rivers joined the duo.

"He just came over and we talked, man to man, I appreciated that," Karl said. "I thought it was a classy gesture."

And I bet the conversation went "Sorry George. You know that's not about you, right?"

"Of course.  I don't blame you at all. Charlie is a cruddy player. I woulda said the same thing".

Too bad Charlie V could not have handled the situation similar by talking to KG instead of being a whiny baby and blabbing on Twitter about it. Funny how nobody backed Charlie V up on what he said.

Lol.  There's a delay in topics on the home page, so when I came online and didn't see a topic about it on my list I posted this one.  But I will say, the original story was absolutely overblown and unnecessarily negative to me so I'm kind of happy to have this thread separate (at least for now) so we don't have this somewhat nice story buried in all of that garbage.

I think its pretty dumb that KG told the media what was said. If it was so 'man to man', it should've stayed that way. Now it kind of comes off (to me at least) like KG used Karl in some kind of PR contrition stunt.

The whole thing is stupid. Its stupid we ever found out from Charlie what KG said, its stupid people got all upset about it, its stupid that KG felt it would be a good move to apologize/clarify his comments to an actual cancer patient, and its stupid that he told the media what he did. The whole entire ordeal is just stupid.

Well, it depends on how the interview went down.  If someone asked him specifically what he talked about with Karl, then I have no problem with him being honest.  I don't think he was talking out of school to say what he did.  Although, if he volunteered the information without being prompted, then I would agree with you.

the reporter said: "I saw you talked to Karl after the game. What did you say to him?"
(keep in mind, KG's head is basically buried next to Karl's ear, it is obviously a very private thing)
than KG said what he said.

Personally I think just saying "It was a private discussion" would be way classier.

Eh, perhaps, but I am certainly not going to hold it against him for answering the question.  The fact that the issue was so publicized, and Karl was a part of it, made it a very reasonable thing to address.

Lets remember, these guys are public figures, and this was based on an incredibly public issue.  This is not something that went down between these two personally.  It was something that Karl was only part of because it was made public in the first place.  So, for KG to address it publically is not a problem in my mind.

Um anyone who saw the game saw they were talking. I am 100% sure the media brought this up to KG. That is what they do. As was said this has been made into a huge public issue why can't KG say something to the media? Everyone else seemed to

Well if you're 100% sure, you'd be right. You could even read 2 posts above where I said they brought it up.

My point is that KG saying what they talked about just cheapens it. If he really felt bad that George took offense to what he 'allegedly' said, the media has nothing to do with it. The only reason to tell people what he said would be to help Garnett's image. I thought it was out of character from a guy who usually keeps things like this closer to the vest.

Honestly, I think the whole thing was "cheap" from the get-go.  Much ado about nothing.  It was one player trying to get revenge by making the player that just schooled him look bad.  Everything that came from it was just the typical over-reacting to a non-issue so you don't look insensitive.

This was an issue that was created in the media, so therefore, it needs to die in the media, and that is what KG was doing last night.

Now, if we were talking about a real issue, then yes, going up and addressing it man to man, and then keeping it private was the way to do it.  But since this was all just a ridiculous thing created by the media in the first place, its not going to make it any cheaper than it already is to address it the way KG did.
