Funny how this guy went to Memphis for "more playing time" only to see a rookie steal his role from him:

http://espn.go.com/nba/dailydime/_/page/dime-101201/daily-dime

While I appreciate TA's play last year, they guy was honestly a moron. I don't know if people on here ever talked to him but I did in Oklahoma when he was here. The only language this guy spoke was ebonics. He seemed nice but it's sad he didn't recognize the opportunity he had here with the Celtics.

Instead of being a consistent contributor on a championship caliber team (either Marquise or Delonte is not brought back if TA stays) he is a consistent DNP on a lottery team/

Let this be a lesson to all that no side is Greener than the Boston Celtics' side!

I'd take TA back in heartbeat. MEM isn't good enough to need a defensive specialist like TA, but I certainly don't begrudge TA from taking a solid contract offer from another squad.

Marquis is a solid player, but he doesn't have the defensive chops we'll need off the bench against MIA, ORL, CHI, etc in the EC playoffs or teams like LA, SA, etc if we make it to the Finals.

I really hope something on DAs plate is figuring out how re-acquire him because MEM clearly does not need him.

The only fool is in MEM FO that signed TA in the first place.

Judging by speech isn't 100% perfect, but I'd bet its more than 75% perfect. I met Tony and knew a fair number of people in Waltham that knew him better - the OP's impression is spot on.

Yeah, it seems as though Tony, or his agent, miscalculated his role on the Grizzlies, versus the one he was guaranteed to have had he stayed aboard in Boston. I don't particularly miss Tony these days because Marquis Daniels is a better decision maker.

Marquis Daniels put Brandon Roy in a cage tonight and played a big role in turning this game around in the third quarter. I'll stick with Marquis and let Memphis keep TA.

I'd be happy trading Marquis for him anytime he wants to come back.

Tony Allen: 5.4 turnovers per 48 min
Marquis Daniels: 1.6 turnovers per 48 min

NO THANKS

Did anyone see that block by Josh Smith on Tony last night? It was kinda of funny because he caught him by surprise from the rear.Always keep your eyes in your rearview mirror in the NBA.

You can catch it on Sports Center(ESPN)this morning.

I think it was a case of Chris Wallace trying to stick it to the Celtics again.

I think we can still use Tony Allen. We are lucky that Daniels is playing well and isn't hurt or else losing Tony would hurt pretty bad, especially with Delonte out and now Nate hurting. You know it's only a matter of time for Marquis to go down with something (hope I'm wrong though).

I'd love to get Tony back. Maybe they realize they don't need him and buy him out?  I think they anticipated a larger role for Tony, seeing that he is a veteran that won a championship, but they probably didn't expect their rookie to play well so soon.

Quis > TA. Defended Roy extremely well last night, and as mentioned, not as turnover prone/better all around offensively.

If it was all about the money then i think he can live with it...something i have felt all alone.

True.  Putting an extra guaranteed FIVE MILLION DOLLARS or so in one's pocket cannot reasonably be called a mistake.

It's always interesting to me how casually fans can leave millions of dollars on the table when it's somebody else's money.  I think a lot of us would see things a little differently if it was our name on those checks.

I don't blame TA for leaving for the extra money, but I wouldn't be surprised if he's regretting it by now.

I'm sure Memphis is regretting it, too.  Good to see Tony hasn't cut down on the turnovers AT ALL.  Boston could afford to play 4 on 5 on offense when he was in the game...Memphis can't.  As a result, DNP-CDs for TA.

And you're right on point about the money situation, never understood while people blame players for taking more.  The metaphor I use is this: I work in an office job.  Let's say another office offers me more money to do the exact same job.  Even if they are probably offering a lot more than I am worth, I'm not gonna turn it down unless I truly love my current job, and I imagine most people wouldn't either.  Just because in the sports world there's a lot more zeroes on the paycheck doesn't make the mentality any different.

Tony seems to have made a bad decision for himself if he was hoping for more playing time (though I doubt he'd be getting much more than that in Boston), but that doesn't make him a moron.  I'm guessing that smart people make mistakes too.

And I'd be cautious about assuming someone's level of intelligence from a conversation and a person's use of cultural dialect.  America is flooded with folks who don't speak 'the Queen's English' but who are nonetheless quite bright.

Larry Bird (especially early in his career) and Mayor Menino come to mind.

Funny, but I don't think I'd put Menino in the "particularly bright" category.

Menino speaks "mechanic".

TA doesn't care at all, he get what he want - more money, now he's paid for just sitting on the bench, he gets money for doin' nothing, I'm sure that's fine with him and he's not regret his descision at all.
Strongly disagree with this.  TA has had aspirations of being a star in the past, and he thought he could establish himself more somewhere else.  A week ago TA was a distant memory, but now West is hurt(like usual), and Daniels always gets hurt.  So unless Wafer or Bradley comes on, we may eventually end up thinking about Tony a little bit more.

But if Tony was here do we still have Daniels? Or does he go somewhere else.

I'd like to point out that, while Tony's playing a little less than last year, out of Memphis's 19 games he has 13 games of 10+ minutes and 3 DNPs. Again, not the minutes he wants, but people are acting like he's buried on the end of the bench.
