And what stereotype is that?

Soft

Funny, here in europe we make jokes about the soft, white american players. 

I remember a whole lot of people complaining about the NBA guys having to adjust to rougher play in the Worlds this summer.  The soft stereotype is pretty dated at this point.

Semih is an odd pick for a scapegoat given that he didn't play much and ideally wouldn't be playing at all.  He's been thrust into this role and is playing hurt.  It's a general lack of chemistry, some dubious calls, and no Rondo to tie it all together that killed us today.

I think you guys are being a little too harsh on the 60th pick of a draft. Plus, it's not like we have that many bigs to play in front of him in the rotation right now, and he he has an injured shoulder.

Hello Everyone, Celtics fan here in Louisiana! I thought the Toronto game was the the 1st time that Semih's play made me cringe a bit, I have pretty much watched all the C's games this year and I have been midly surprised and impressed with his play all things considered. We all know he has a long way to go, however he has certainly showed me that he is not just a tall "stiff'. Just about everyone on the team raves about this kid. For the most part, he moves well for his size and  seems to have good hands. He certainly needs to finish around the basket better but as Doc pointed out some of that maybe due to his injured shoulder. I only wish Doc would maybe call a few plays for this kid when he comes into the game and play some inside outside game and see what he can do, instead of just being only a pick guy for everybody. From what I understand, he has a decent jump hook and some nice up and under moves.

I'd like to see Harangody play some instead of Erdin. He's not soft and really tries. He didn't uselessly foul all the time either.

Play a guy even less ready for the NBA? I'd rather play the guys who give us the best chance.

This guy is an abosulte waste of minutes. I havent seen someone pick up fouls at a rate that rivals Mikki Moore since...well, Mikki Moore.

Semih doesent jump, he has no offensive game to speak of, his defense is non existent, and he has less energy then the entire Celtics team in the 4th quarter last season.

This kid is 24? You would think he would make the most of his minutes in the NBA but he just looks like he doesent care, doesent want to play hard, and is slowly fitting the stereotype of the European basketball player.

He’s a rookie center who is only playing big minutes because of injuries. You couldn’t be more wrong about basically everything, he’s a smart offensive player who can make free throws and smart passes. Center is the toughest position to play defensively in the NBA… and it’s WAYY tougher when the guys in front of you aren’t really trying too hard to control their own man.

If this thread was about Nate Robinson’s inability to keep his man in front of him, i might give you something. Or if it was about how KG only finishes hard following misses where he thought he was fouled, sure. But about how the last big off the bench, who is a rookie, from another country, who isn’t fluent in english… “sucks”… this thread is ridiculous.

Greg was a banger who at times would rebound.  IMO Semih is already a better player.  I had posted earlier about comparing Perks first few years to how Semih is already playing.  Guy is good defender, very good passer, hit the fts, better low post game and is tough.  He does need to wait for cutters defender to clear out before making a move and cut silly fouls.  His size and passing alone makes me think he is a keeper.

I think give him a few years.  Greg was not really a backup center more 3rd or 4th string (man the c's didn't have anywhere near a good a bench then as we do now).  I think Erden has what it takes to be a good backup.  He isn't going to move shaq or jermaine (if healthy) when perk gets back BUT he is a really low risk project for the draft #.

Semih has a lot of nice skills, I just hope he puts it all together.  Some of it is the refs, some of it is dumb turnovers.  He's been better than we expected overall, and he will look a lot better if and when he gets in a groove.

The frustrating thing is that he makes the occasional spectacular play that we don't expect him to make, then he messes up on the routine play such as finishing a layup.  Hopefully this is just Semih getting used to the league.

The man is playing with 1 good shoulder. I am sure that doesn't help.
