Caron's game is actually pretty similar to Pierce's.
I don't see it, Pierce is a much more effective scorer across the board.

They both like the step back J, that's true. But Pierce is a better shooter from deep, in the mid-range, at the rim, and at the charity stripe.

I think you're underselling Butler a bit here. He has a very good midrange game and, going by his career numbers, is a better FT shooter than Paul.  Now, this year Pierce is shooting at 94% while Butler is in the 60%'s... maybe that's what you're talking about.  But historically, Butler is very good from the line - not sure what's causing the hiccup.

Curiously, his old teammate Antawn Jamison developed a similar ability to miss free throws as soon as he left Washington.

I just looked at the last three years numbers, you're right career wise.

Caron has mid-range game, not as good as Pierce, but that's it. Since mid-range shots are the worst shots in basketball bleh. He's not even exceptional at that mid-ranged game like Dirk is....

I confess....I was one of those pushing hard here to trade RA.....In retrospect, I have mixed emotions......
On one hand, Ray carried our butts in the playoffs until that dirty piece of garbage, Artest, took him out of the Championship series....but for that one cheap act (God I hope Artest gets his..we were lucky that Artest caught Ray in the thigh, because if that was his knee, who knows?) we easily win that series, maybe in 5.
On the other hand, if RA was traded, Butler and Jamison both would have performed far better on the Cs for a whole lot of reasons (they couldn't have performed worse). Also, Ray WOULD have been bought out. (See Z Ilgouskas). While we most likely would not have RA this year, 18 last year would have been far more likely. Also, next years lockout would have made Jamison's contract far more palatable and we could've picked up a marksman somewhere (FA, draft, trade) if we thought we needed one to replace Ray's 3 prowess.....

This was a tough call, but in retrospect, I have to admit that I'm glad we kept Ray....I think

Ughhhh...

I honestly doubt that veteran players like Caron would want to be traded to a team like the Celtics where they would most likely not be able to start. I mean, it's not like the Dallas Mavericks are any threat to make it out of the West this season so if he was traded to a better team you know he would have to defer to others on the team and become more of a role-player  ::)

Also, there is no reason why someone like Ray Allen should be playing for a team like the Mavs in this stage of his career because he would only need one more season in this stage of his career to lead the NBA in all-time 3 pointers made during the regular season. Also, Ray is a better mid-range scorer and shoots much better than Caron at the free-throw line.

Nothing against either player, however it should be obvious that a trade like that would be worthless from the C's point of view, especially if it might also involve Antawn Jamison.
