After beating Washington last night, I couldn't help but think about the trade rumor Ray for Caron Butler.

I was totally against it feeling that Butler couldn't contribute like Ray could within their system. Some people felt the Celtics lost their opportunity to go to the next level.  I don't know about you but I am glad it turned out the way it did.

What do you think?

I'm glad we have Ray over Caron.

Butler just hasn't looked that good over the past season & a half or so. Inconsistent as heck.

It is easy to forget how bad we looked during the regular season after that fantastic playoff run.

I didnt like it myself but most people thought some kind of shake up was needed.

VERY glad we decided not to.

I agree.  Caron just isn't nearly as good as Ray.  I have to admit that at the time I wasn't really against Caron and Haywood for Ray.  But those two have looked very average since then, and Ray has played much better.

I was excited at the prospect of getting two and then Washington buying Ray out and bringing him back. Of course then we'd have lost Ray this off season....

I'm glad things worked out like they have. Butler has been horrific in Dallas.

I’m very glad we still have Ray over Caron. Caron seems to screw up ball movement, and call his own number when it’s not in the best interest of the team.

Paul and him would hate each other in a month.

Caron is the king of the long 2 point shot after playing some iso ball on the wing at this point.

Dallas has been much better on offense without him in the lineup.

Ray was up and down last year and the team was struggling.

Throw in his expiring contract, he was the best trade bait the team had.

The Ray for Bulter/Jamison was a big carrot.

I am glad Ray is here now.  I wish the Celtics could have added Haywood last year to step in for Perk when he got injured.

Ray fits much better with the system and even at his age he is still a better player. I like Butler, but I like Ray much more and am very glad that he is here instead of Butler. I wasn't impressed with Butler when we played Dallas. His shot decisions were just ridiculous.

I think the fulcrum of the 'Trade Ray' camp was for this team to get younger in general, and if we were going to lose him anyway, let's get something. I still think Caron would have been good here, and we would have a better defensive team, but Ray is the man and I am glad it worked out this way...

I have always been part of the keep-Ray club, and I am so glad that DA decided to keep him.  He is one of the premier shooters in the league, and he fits in perfectly with this team.

Caron has some toughness that I like, but I'm not sure he's much better on "d" than Ray, if at all.

Caron's game is actually pretty similar to Pierce's.  He'd be an EXCELLENT 6th man for us, but lining him up next to Pierce just doesn't work IMO

I'm glad it turned out the way it did, but I was all for trading for Caron Butler.  It seemed like a way to get younger without much of a drop off in talent, especially given how Ray was playing last year.

I do agree with this.  that was the one thing that bugged me about a potential ray for caron trade (even though I was for it).
Celtics fan for life.

I don't see it, Pierce is a much more effective scorer across the board.

They both like the step back J, that's true. But Pierce is a better shooter from deep, in the mid-range, at the rim, and at the charity stripe.
