People are just looking for reasons to try and throw together and NBA conspiracy of sorts and blame the refs for teams turnovers...Now we have an example of the refs making a CORRECT call and it is still being looked at as wrong doing and conspiring against the Celtics...

The real question is when does THIS stop??

If the player has one foot out of the paint doesn't that reset the 3 seconds?  Or do you have to have both feet out of the paint?

Cause KG definetly stepped out of the paint within 3 seconds.
You have to have both feet outside the paint. KG does not get completely out of the paint and is there for about 4 seconds. That was the correct call.

you dont have to have both feet planted just that none r in the paint therefore it was the wrong call.. and i believe they called another 3 second on KG earlier that game and i rewinded it and KG had both out that time as well. i think it's just that the refs were trying to help the heat a little too much

I wasn't clear on this rule until now...but I think Fafnir is right.

you just made my point with the video. as long as he lifts his foot and gets it out of the paint(which KG does) it is not a 3-sec. u can clearly see on the vid that garnett gets his foot out and lifts his other foot out of the paint and then puts it back in. therefore it is the wrong call.

i find it funny that there is CLEAR video proof of the refs blatently calling bad calls on the C's in the finals and againt other teams with "premiere" nba stars but yet people still come on here defending the refs and vince macma- i mean david stern... it's known across the league that the nba money maker superstars get the best treatment from the refs  and on here people just point that out but yet we have some that refuse to accept that....

i'd also like to say that this play here is reallllly close as well. i cant blame the ref for calling this but i also think it's a bad call because that was barely over 3secs but you can literally call 3-secs on any play if u were anal about it but the refs usually dont unless its in the 4-5seconds range and its completely obvious. and also this is a close call in the last minutes of a game. its one of those ticky-tacky calls that they usually let go in the last minutes but i think because it was the celtics they called it. the one earlier in the game however was terrible. i guarantee if that was bosh/wade/lebron it wouldnt have been called tho. but technically if u watch it closely on video it is the wrong call

It's amazing how many fans complain about refs and don't actually know the rules. KG is in the lane for 6-7 friggen seconds!!! Hah I'm serious, look at him enter the paint at the :03 mark and is still there at the :10 second mark. Even with that pivot he never gets both feet clearly out of the paint.

Officiating in the NBA is harder than in any other level or sport. I get ticked when the they make a good call and people still get on them.  ::)

i know the [dang] rules. I even mentioned it in the description. The only thing i did not know and see is the hand signal the ref gives signaling the number 5 who is obviously garnett. If you go to sportslines play by play which i also went buy you would see that the violation was on Rondo. The entire time i was under the "impression" that it was Rondo's violation

Ill be [dang]ed if that call is made everytime it happens. Look at the ref, its almost like he forgot to call it, the hesitation and everything.

And if Garnett was in the paint since the :3 second mark of the video why didnt the ref call it when the 3 seconds was actually counted. Its almost like he thought "oh i forgot" now i gotta call it. Still a dumb ref

Yeah, it had to be on Garnett and any given post play they can call it as someone is always camped out.   I am not the biggest fan of the refs and I do believe they heartily pad LeBron James stats with FTAs.  I mean they have sunk millions of marketing into this kid.  He is an investment.  The Lakers were in the post much longer than that and they were not called in the finals.  So 3 seconds is always a selective call, they call it when they want too and don't when they do not.

NBA refs blow more calls than anyone.  But its because of the instant replay and we see how they were faked out by the players.  That being said, they still do a bad job most of the time.  No other sport, not even football has as many star calls.  Baseball and football refs are often reinforced by the instant replay, not all the time but a lot of the time, NBA refs are not.

First of all the 3-second call is a "secondary call". This is because there is so many things the ref must be watching that it isn't always the easiest thing to catch. Not to mention that refs aren't robots and do not have the advantage of youtube to see this sort of thing. The ref was giving KG the benefit of the doubt when he first caught the ball. If KG had shot the ball or gotten out of the lane after passing there wouldn't have been a call. But he didn't. I'm not sure what else to tell you.

Oh and if you know the rules, why did you post this? "I now see that the call may have been on Garnett. Horrible call non the less. Was he even entirely in the paint, was he even in the paint after three seconds?"- you. It doesn't matter if you're entirely in the paint, just one foot.

Stern does not like the Celtics......

I gotta shoot this one down, I think Stern's favorite player was Larry.....

I can't see him hating on a team that his favorite player suited up for.....

Yeah, but he hated the Celtics.  Was it Tommy that confirmed that the league didn't like Red?  I can't remember who it was.

I think he hates us.  Didn't give us any compensation for Reggie Lewis did he?

Any given play there are 4-5 violations at any given time to be honest folks.   There are hand checks all the time, holding, three seconds, travelling, push offs and illegal screens.  So its all a matter of what they decide to call but if you break down tape you can see tons of mistakes and missed calls more so than any other sport.

Yea people are just digging and digging to make a conspiracy about things, in this case, was the correct call.  There is human error in a game that has a very fast pace.  But there is nothing wrong in this situation.

If the call was on Rondo, it's wrong.

But KG NEVER gets out of the lane after entering it (foot on the line), CLEARLY over 3 seconds.
