Brandon Roy, is his career as a star coming to an end soon? (knee issue)

Brandon Roy will not have surgery on his left knee because there is nothing to fix and that is not good. It was learned Friday that Roy no longer has any meniscus in the left knee.

"Nah. None. Not in my right, either," Roy told The Oregonian.

This means Roy will play the rest of his career with bone-on-bone issues for both knees and will need to take medication to help with the swelling. The medicine can cause problems for the liver, so the Blazers will continue to run tests to make sure everything is okay.

That's to bad.  How many more years is he making the big bucks?

This is one of the reasons he slipped in the draft. Several teams wouldn't touch him because of his knees.

That really stinks for Roy, I like the guy. He seems like a humble star, which is rare in this league. It also stinks for the Blazers fans, they've been wanting a true contender for awhile. They've had pieces, but it seems their like core guys can't shake the injury bug (the big one would be Oden).

Just a bummer, I think he'll find a way to adapt his game though. Hopefully, he'll still be able to be really efficient and effective for them.

Shame Portland has fallen apart.  They'd be real competition for the Lakers if Roy, Oden and Przybilla could put a semi-healthy season together.

that's truly a shame about his health.  what really bothers me is that the medication they're giving him impacts his liver which is a significant side effect.  an NBA career is great if you can have one but not at the expense of a shortened lifespan due to medical damage from trying to prolong the dream.

Wally Szczerbiak played his whole career with the same thing.  His knees were bone on bone from college on.  He'll find ways to manage it just as Wally did.

Most of his career, he was a shooter that could not defend because of the lack of speed.

Yeah he will most likely end up like Michael Redd! a player to watch one year then falls to an injury and into obscurity.

The league is quickly becomming a "what have you done for me lately, type of deal" just hope Roy gets the better end of the stick!

Sad, I like him and his game.

The Lakers have been fortunate that teams like Houston (86 on), Seattle (96 on) and Portland (now) seem poised to end their runs and then suffer these types of issues.

Keeps looking worse for the long term of his career.

Jason Quick of The Oregonian reports the Blazers are considering having Brandon Roy coming off the bench when the second half begins. It's not definite, but the idea has been discussed by head coach Nate McMillan and Roy.

"That's something we are going to have to keep talking about," Roy said Monday.

Roy is dealing with left knee issues now and McMillan says the shooting guard, Andre Miller and Marcus Camby seem to be stiff after halftime. The extra time would allow Roy more time to work with a trainer and stretch out before coming into the third quarter.

Why does he need extra time to work with a trainer and stretch out?  He can't just get to the game earlier?  Only playing him half the game might be beneficial but not for that reason.

Yup, and the C's were one of them.

This is too bad, but not really surprising.  He just had a ton of red flags with those knees.  Hopefully he can make a career for himself as more of a grounded player.  He has the skills to do it...but it is definitely a disappointment as a basketball fan that he will never really reach is full potential.
