From about 2 weeks ago:

Miller said the team was aware of the condition of Roy's knees when they were negotiating his contract extension, and that it entered the discussion. However, in the end, Miller said Roy's body of work won out.

"When he was drafted, we knew there were problems with his knees,'' Miller said. "When we talked about his extension last summer, it did come into play and into the discussions. But at the end of the day, he was the face of turning this organization and franchise around. He was Rookie of the Year, a three-time time All Star ...  it just made all the sense in the world to give him the deal we gave him.

"There was some consideration given to (his knees)  - but as we looked at it and talked - we decided he had earned this. He has earned this max contract regardless of what problems might come along.''

Miller said he has been briefed on Roy's condition by athletic trainer Jay Jensen, and is confident that Roy can maintain his level of All-Star play, even if he might have to change his playing style. He said Roy's knees are not an "acute problem" but rather "a chronic problem."

Considering how little he resembles the Brandon Roy who was a top 20 player in the league right now I think it is an "acute" problem.

I don't blame management for giving him that contract. Give him any less, and I'm sure he walks. Tell me which team would not love to have him, even with his knee issues. Even with knee issues coming out of college, he has played great.

It's also about ticket sales. It's important to have a superstar like Roy, for no other reason than to bring people to the arena.

He should have had the same surgery as Bynum. He should have opted to stitch together the meniscus, instead of trimming it. He would miss the playoffs and the first few months of the season, but would have a better career outlook.

The whole line of "Stars sell tickets" isn't really true. Winning sells tickets, and stars in the NBA win games. The problem is Roy looks like he's not the same player anymore.

I don't see how you can comment on what sort of surgery he should have had. There hasn't been any sort of public release of medical information for us to speculation like that.
