I know it's purely speculation.  But I would be banging my head against the wall if this happened.  As if the Gasol ripoff from the Grizzlies wasn't bad enough!

It would be Chris Paul and Okafor for Bynum, Odom, and Vujacic.
Bynum can't stay healthy, Odom is mr. inconsistent, and Vujacic can't get off the bench except in garbage time.  I think this would be a horrible trade for the Hornets and a great pickup for the Lakers.  A superstar PG plus a solid center for garbage and cap relief.  Yuck.

Eh.

I think he would hurt Kobe's game significantly. Like what's happening in Miami, both Kobe and CP3 need the ball to be effective. Honestly, someone like Stojakovic is better for Paul than Kobe, regardless of how great a player he is. That's what makes the Lakers so good with Bynum and Gasol. They can get position while Kobe runs around contemplating a horrible shot and occasionally lobs it in to them.

I'd much rather face a team with just one quality big than a two-time defending champion.

But it won't happen, so you don't have to worry.

I would LOVE it if this trade happened...what an excellent way to screw up the Lake show's team chemistry. They wouldn't blow a chance at a threepeat for this trade.

That is a low offer to me.

Paul (as long as he is under contract and is not a sign and trade) is worth more.

For example, the Celtics would likely have to give up Rondo, Davis, a 1st and expiring or short term contracts while agreeing to take back a bad salary as well to get NO to even think about a trade.

NO is winning right now.  Paul is probably happier at this moment.  There is no pressure to make a deal.

i dont think it would screw them up at all.

lakers would be scary if paul goes there, easy basket after easy basket. the trade would be a steal for the lakers, Hornets would be stupid to take that offer.

With two last shot guys who expect the ball in there hands this will fail… there will always be doubt between the two of them, there will be over passing two prove that your not a ball hog, and there will always be the “well CP had a good shot, but it was more likely to go in if Kobe shot it.”

I think that you can’t have a point guard and a shooting guard who both want to control the offense. Kobe’s game is built for a PG like Fisher, the guy who’ll just hang back and look to capitalize off of double teams.

Plus LA is just as likely to trade Kobe as New Orleans is to trade CP3… as of right now they have the same record.

Not gonna happen. Odom might be the most underrated player in the game and he is quietly showing that he has every skill in the game. The lakers are going for a threepeat, they arent going to drastically change their roster until Kobe is gone.

Agreed.  Odom is the unheralded X factor for them.  Makes match-ups very difficult for other teams.

Lakers don't need a CP3-type PG in their system - but I wish they'd have gone after Collison...

Your scenario would make the Lakers less dangerous by removing their best and 3rd-best rebounders.

Yep, the Hornets are not trading Chris Paul for the foreseeable future.

I doubt they'll give any consideration to any CP3 trade until the summer at the very earliest.

The Lakers system is Phil Jackson. It's not the players, it's about him and this is probably Phil's final year.

When he goes ... the Lakers system, the Triangle offense, could go with him.

No other head coach in the league today has had success with that offense. LA can either roll with an inexperienced head coach like Brian Shaw or they'll hire an experienced coach who'll change their system.

Just trying to say, due to Phil's impending departure, the Lakers are not tied to their system. There is a good chance they'll be making changes to it in near future + they will be increasingly open to those changes if it involves a talent like CP3.

On a final note, Jerry Buss, Lakers owner, would absolutely love to have a point guard like Chris Paul. Someone who could get the team out in the open court and bring a huge amount of excitement to the Lakers. Ala Magic Johnson and the showtime days.

The Lakers could play Kobe at small forward.  He's 6'6" and can rebound.

Great.  Another three months of talk about superstar x to the lakers.  Wasn't it mentioned last year that Chris Bosh heading there was practically a done deal?

Guess it's better to hear this speculation.  Never heard one whisper about Gasol going to the lakers a few years back.
