I feel like the old lady sitting next to Stryker in the movie "Airplane" when Hubie Brown is doing a game. Statistic after statistic. "Joe Schmoe averages 56 percent from the field on every 3rd Tuesday of the month when on the road on a back to back, Okay? That's good for 4th in the league.Uggggghhhhh.I know the guy is knowledgeable(so are all the coaches in the NBA)but pry your lips from the frickin 'calculator for a little, dude.

I don't know if he's always been like this but he was wetting his pants talking about the Celts last night

There's an old video from the 70's I think where Hubie is giving a clinic. During part of it he's whipping behind the back passes to people on the baseline. Its pretty cool but I can't find it anywhere.

Hubie does get kind of annoying with the stats and sometimes he's wrong but I respect his opinions and he definitely knows the game.

He constantly teaches the game as he commentates, similar to Tommy. One thing he mentioned last night that I thought was smart: as a coach dont worry so much about telling your players who to foul at the end of games, rather instruct them to put all their effort into getting a steal. He said that when under pressure players more often than not will split the two free throws, even the good ones

Yep.  My favorite announcer for about a million years.  I can listen to him call a crappy boring game and hang on his every word.  I love the stats!  And I disagree that Tommy teaches the game like Hubie does.

Very informant. His commentary doesn't veer away from the game. Always on point. And he gives props to everyone not just the star players. Doris Burke is also my of fav. But lately she's been doing more sideline reporting than calling actually games.

I always loved "The Czar". I think because he's called some memorable games for me like when Larry came back out of the locker room and owned the Pacers after bashing his face on the parquet floor. I always got the feeling he was a HUGE Bird and Celtic fan, even during the years we were beating his teams.

If I'm not mistaken "The Czar" is Mike Fratello, but you could be meaning him and not Hubie... Not sure though.

Every time I listen to Hubie I feel like I'm getting a lesson in NBA 101.  Just listen and absorb because there's nugget after nugget of stuff every time he does a game.  And he gives you plenty of insight into what the coaches are thinking.

I will watch a game with 2 teams I have no interest in seeing if Hubie is announcing it.

Ya. I was referring to Fratello. I also liked how he could laugh at himself. All the hazing he took from Marv Albert and he never busted out with "Well at least I don't dress up in women's clothing." (Kidding)

Not only is Hubie Brown incredibly wise, but he is also incredibly generous.  Some people might be tempted to be miserly and hoard their wisdom.  Not Hubie.  He is not the least bit shy about sharing his vast store of knowledge.  He must have figured out that a lot of times, people without a lot of wisdom and knowledge are embarassed to ask questions of those who do have wisdom and knowledge, so it's best to not wait for them to ask, it's best to just open your mouth and let it all flow out in a never-ending stream.  It would be amazing to live in the same house as Hubie.  I bet from the second he wakes up in the morning, he is bestowing his glorious knowledge on everyone within earshot, and it doesn't stop until he goes to bed at night.  Do his jaws get tired?  Perhaps, but he soldiers on, resolutely carrying on his life's work of spreading knowledge.  I think that not only should Hubie Brown announce every major sporting event, I think that as a public service, loudspeakers shaped like Hubie Brown's head should be mounted on every street corner and recordings of Hubie Brown's wisdom can issue forth, blanketing entire cities with his succulent wisdom and enriching the lives of all citizens with bountiful statistics.
