KG should issue a public apology for talking trash to Charlie V.
I would apologize and just explain that he gets wired during the games. Everyone knows talking smack is common in professional sports if KG just admits he needs to calm it down a bit everyone will understand.

I'm down as long as cv apologizes for taking it to twitter and challenging kg to fight on the Internet like a fake tough guy instead of handling this man to man.

Both guys were wrong on this one, and since neither is going to admit it and I hear worse at my local pickup game, I pretty much don't mind that neither will.

They should just let it go

agreed. kg crossed the line with that comment and he should apologize i agree. what he said was insensitive particularly to someone who is facing a disease his entire life (charlie v.)

KG called him a cancer. Charlie V has made every team worse and gifts little to no effort in games.

KG was 100% correct.

yes let it go...

kinda ridiculous that players could just do this after every game if they wanted to. Of course every player not named CV won't be doing it. Also kinda funny that you could just make up whatever you want on twitter (not saying this is what CV did necessarily) just to try and ruin a reputation of someone you don't like.

It was a tasteless thing to say.

But if KG has to apologize, every player who has ever talked trash needs to apologize. Even if they didn't use the magic word "cancer,"  most players who talk trash have used a racial slur, made a misogynistic comment, and/or said something homophobic. After all, it's called trash talk, not polite conversation.

And every columnist, blogger, and fan who has ever said Iverson/T.O./Marbury/whomever "is a locker room cancer" needs to apologize as well. And they need to apologize more profusely than KG, who after all didn't make his comment expecting it to be repeated outside the lines.

I'm not arguing that the comment was classy or that KG is a saint.

But I hate the way so many-- looking at you, Around the Horn folks-- are clutching their pearls over the "you're a cancer phrase" when KG says it, after having turned a blind eye toward it for years.

If there's a new rule, there's a new rule. But if it's going to be enforced retroactively on KG, it needs to be enforced retroactively on everyone.

He called him a cancer, he never said he looked like he had cancer. Charlie V was mistaken.

Disagree.  If KG said that he looked like a cancer patient, yes.  But KG denies saying that and if he apologizes now, he is pretty much admitting he was lying.

In a league full of macho guys who all try to be more cooler than the next one, I find it a very long shot to see an apology coming from KG.

I believe CV´s reason for putting it out in the open is just to tell the world that you cant take things like this lightly. KG´s attempt to try to clear his name was absolutely pathetic! He simply cannot try to change what he said in a way that it makes everybody thing it was only a misunderstanding. There is a very thin line between being competitive and talking trash, and being competitive and talk bullEdited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline., and the latter seems to be what KG speaks quite often while on court. For 20+ millions a year he should know better.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think he already did in so many words. I think most of us agree that he didn't call him a cancer to the league and instead meant, 'cancer patient', but in his explanation he gave much respect to those who have had and have cancer at the end of it. Did KG go a little too far? Sure, but seriously, he is hardly the only person to go over the line with his trash talk. CV was just lame enough to go on Twitter with it all.

I'm a little sensitive to this I guess. I remember an albino kid in my neighborhood when I was growing up that i guess took some serious torment at his school. That stuff never leaves you. I love KG but I wish Charlie did knock him out right there. I hear what people are saying that it's part of the game in the heat of battle but how many people here think they could ever say something like that when they were not even close to fighting? Charlie would have been justified in punching him.

I think most of us agree that he didn't call him a cancer to the league and instead meant, 'cancer patient',

Most do? I certainly don't. I agree with Danny Ainge's comments today that calling someone a cancer makes more sense, trash talk wise, than calling someone a cancer patient:

Quote
There's one thing that I know for sure, and it’s that KG would not offend cancer patients. That makes no sense. It makes no sense on a lot of fronts. Not only is he experiencing it in his own family, but that's just not something I’ve ever heard -- in 30 years -- ever say, in trash talking. What is logical in a trash talking situation for a player to say to another player, 'You have cancer' or 'You are cancer'?

http://espn.go.com/blog/BostonCeltics/post/_/id/4677795/ainge-villaneuvas-accusation-ludicrious

And I remember Reggie Miller's face lighting up as he told John Starks "You're supposed to be a starter in this league? REALLY?" So I don't think bringing "the league" into trashtalk is unusual.

I really and truly believe that KG's statement was a sanitized version of what he said:

Bleep you, your bleeping team bleeps, your bleeping team always bleeping bleeps, you're a bleeping cancer.

CV wasn't listening carefully. He was trying to do his job. And when he heard cancer, he filled it in as "you're a cancer patient" because he was called that so many times as a kid and on some level expects it.

Had no idea I was in the minority on that.

Garnett said he called him a cancer, he didn't say he looked like he had cancer. You come to CBlog so why not read the news stories?
