KG should issue a public apology for talking trash to Charlie V.
Charlie V should issue a public apology for making a non-issue public.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Disagree.  If KG said that he looked like a cancer patient, yes.  But KG denies saying that and if he apologizes now, he is pretty much admitting he was lying.

Also mean doc is a liar in the bargain.

I think he already did in so many words. I think most of us agree that he didn't call him a cancer to the league and instead meant, 'cancer patient', but in his explanation he gave much respect to those who have had and have cancer at the end of it. Did KG go a little too far? Sure, but seriously, he is hardly the only person to go over the line with his trash talk. CV was just lame enough to go on Twitter with it all.

No, I don't agree doc rivers an kg are liars and CV's word should be taken as the gospel because he has a twitter account.

I believe that the truth is somewhere in the middle and that in the grand scheme of things I don't care.

I continue to be amazed by the legs this story has.  The Alopecious-American lobby must have a lot more clout than I'd realized.

I thought I was logged onto a sports talk forum.  Are we still talking about this?  Seriously?

  • You say when......
Les have the media et all, go from talking, to real life..People are always swayed by talk ( politics / elections???) What about ALL the things KG did for CHARITIES..those are FACTS...not talk, court talk, trash talk...and now what do we expect, that everyone that charley V trashed talked come forward and RAT him out...like high school girls....?

So, what is next, if you say "And 1"  are you insinuating that said player cannot add..? Or " Face"   are you talking about his face...?

And Charley V then calling him out to a fight...while he is at home.....oh the beauty of the email, twitter, text......you can be tough AND be home-safe..!

That twitter was soooo weak, and man or woman would be embarrased for even thinking it....

It was a tasteless thing to say.But if KG has to apologize, every player who has ever talked trash needs to apologize. Even if they didn't use the magic word "cancer,"  most players who talk trash have used a racial slur, made a misogynistic comment, and/or said something homophobic. After all, it's called trash talk, not polite conversation.

And every columnist, blogger, and fan who has ever said Iverson/T.O./Marbury/whomever "is a locker room cancer" needs to apologize as well. And they need to apologize more profusely than KG, who after all didn't make his comment expecting it to be repeated outside the lines.

I'm not arguing that the comment was classy or that KG is a saint.

But I hate the way so many-- looking at you, Around the Horn folks-- are clutching their pearls over the "you're a cancer phrase" when KG says it, after having turned a blind eye toward it for years.

If there's a new rule, there's a new rule. But if it's going to be enforced retroactively on KG, it needs to be enforced retroactively on everyone.

Yea it was tastless and over the top thus a wise man would simply own up to it and apologize for talking so much crapola on the court.

Everyone loves KG but please man have some common sense.

He probably should've apologized from the beginning, simply to set a good example.  However, now that he made up this story about calling Villanueva "a cancer," he has nothing officially to apologize about. Calling someone a cancer doesn't merit an apology.

That said, I think anyone who is truly offended by KG's statement is truly kidding him/herself about what is likely routinely said on the basketball court.  I'd wager KG has probably said even worse.  But so have Jordan, Bird, Russell, and many others.  As Danny said the other day, in his day, nothing was out of bounds in trashtalking.

I'm not saying you have to morally agree with that stance.  But that's the reality.  And we've all cheered guys as they've done it.  The only difference now is that Charlie V. was stupid enough to tweet about it.  If Villanueva had done that to Larry Bird, Bird likely would've knocked him out (literally) the next time he played him.

I would wait until all commentators apologize for sitting in the booth calling various players "cancers," which is offensive, of course, to cancer patients, and apologize for calling athletes "warriors," and calling games "wars," which, of course, is demeaning to soldiers and veterans...

I mean, he's following the example set by the booth commentators, I don't see why he should apologize.

Don't forget "throwing someone under the bus" which is offensive to people who have had loved ones run over.  And "drinking the Kool-Aid" which is offensive to anyone who remembers the Jonestown mass suicide (and to Kool-Aid, since the Jonestown members actually drank Flavor-Aid).

The proper response from KG is to come out trash talking hard the next time they play and find an opportunity to level a hard foul on the crybaby that is just below the threshold for being flagrant.

Really? KG should apologize? For what? Like I've said many times, who gives a bleep? Whats said on the court is said on the court. End of discussion. Dont bring your bleep to twitter and whine and complain about what the bigger better player on the court trashed you about. Its part of the game whether you like it or not, and Im certain much worse has been said by someone at one point or the other.

Apologize? You should apologize for making this thread. Ridiculous.
