2nd (now this is all theory, I have no way to prove this).  Who here thinks Charlie Villanueva was talking trash back to KG?  We all know KG talks trash, that's a given.  But honestly Charlie V seems like the type of guy who talks back (hey he at least does over twitter).  KG started talking trash, Charlie V started talking back.  Back and forth they go, all game.  Then KG says he looks like a cancer patient.  Woaaaaaaaa.  I don't think Villanueva is that much of a victim here.  Did KG go over to the bench, where Villanueva was minding his own business, and call him a cancer patient.  Or did KG talk a little trash, Villanueva talked back, then KG said he looked like a cancer patient?  Personally that's how I think it went down (but just my theory, no proof).  Don't come crying if you decide to play with the big dogs and get bit.

I doubt KG led off with the cancer patient bit, and Villanueva was quiet all game.

Greenfaith...Larry was a trash talker, but his actions colored my opinion of him in a worse light than his words did.  But he was still one of the best basketball players I have ever seen.

  • The REAL Pau Gasol
I guess his trash talk didn't work very well in the finals..how about he saves it for AFTER he prevents himself from being dominated by Gasol.

After a humiliating loss in the finals I think he should try to be a bit more humble, we're still "losers".

True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!

KG's trash talking is a function of how well he is feeling and playing. Last year his trash talking was waay down. This year it is ramped right back up because the man looks like a new player out there.

I don't care how awesome of a player someone is - if he is a petty, rude and nasty person off or on the court, I don't like him.
I'm with you - which is why I don't care for KG

Rude and nasty is great ON the court IMO.

KG is very different off the court it seems.

I agree.  Especially since Villanueva does actually have a skin disease which he can do nothing about.  Talking trash is one thing, but if KG actually said that, that is crossing the line.
do it

Just curious though, what do you think is NOT crossing the line for trash talking?  I tend to think the whole idea of trash talking is to cross the line and offend someone, and get in their head.  I am not saying its a good thing, but I just don't think this comment was at all out of the ordinary.

First off, as I former cancer patient, I want to point out I take absolutely NO offense to what KG said.  He said absolutely nothing offensive.  It's about as offensive as saying the refs are blind (which is said all the time).  Is that offensive to all blind people?

And while technically what Villanueva has is a disease, it's harmless.  The only thing that disease causes is hair loss.  It is as harmful of a disease as color blindness or male pattern baldness.  Villanueva is a 20-something year old multimillionaire.  Is he still sensitive about it?  I mean if KG said this to a little kid, ok that's insensitive, to an adult, not so much.  If KG (who shaves is head, maybe balding?) said that to someone who is suffering from male pattern baldness (which is labeled as alopecia the same disease family as alopecia universalis which is what Villanueva has) would it still be so insensitive?  Both are technically diseases.
I wouldn't compare alopecia with male pattern baldness.  It's not the same as being five years old with no hair or eyebrows.  I'm sure Villanueva has psychological scars from what he went through as a kid.  Making the nba doesn't change that.  I'm sure it's a very sensitive issue to him, and he has suffered a lot of pain and embarrassment in the past.

For comparison's sake, a lot bloggers thought Wafer deserved to get is butt kicked by Delonte because they think he mentioned Delonte needing to take his meds.  It's ok for Delonte to pound someone's head in the locker room but it's so wrong for Villanueva to type something on a keyboard?  Is that about it?

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Assuming CV is telling the truth, my thoughts:

1) If KG said this, it was completely out of line as far as trash talk goes. But, lets try putting this in a little context. If KG had used homophobic slurs on a metro looking dude like say Andrea Bargnani, would we be as outraged? If he had used white racial epithets on Kyle Korver, would we be as mad? No. We wouldn't. I'm not saying it makes what KG said right...I'm just saying its not really all that "different" in light of the other stuff that happens.

2) However, like I said in part 1, KG was out of line here. But, this isn't high school ball. This isn't recess. Its professional basketball..a game played by hyper aggressive, hyper competitive, emotionally stunted, vulgar, men. If you're completely devoid of body and head hair, you're going to catch a cancer patient reference once and a while. You think nobody ever called Bill Russell the N-word? You think that Eddy Curry doesn't get called fat? These guys want to win, and they'll use whatever they have to get under your skin. Moreso with a guy like KG who probably can't lose a game of Wii to his kids without screaming at a stanchion.

3) Lastly, like I said before, I think what KG said is objectively out of line, but I'm not a basketball player. But, if CV was so incredibly offended, he should've dealt with it like a man and gone right to the offending party. Stick out his leg on a KG jumper, or hard foul under the hoop. That's how you deal with it. Personally I don't give a crap how politically correct KG's trash talk is, because I know (like Jeff said before) that I'll be offended by it. I understand that. Thing is, I just watch the game, and you know what doesn't offend me? Wins.

  • Eagerly Awaiting the Next Fantasy Draft
I feel like much worse things have been said. If half the things said in the heat of battle were tweated after a game the public would be appalled.

Had Villaneuva actually had cancer it would be offensive.

I feel like this is a case of Charlie's feelings getting hurt because he is sensitive about the disease he has. Well, even with the disease he's still a millionaire player in the NBA. If his feelings are hurt he should go swim in his vault of money Duck tales style. That should make him feel better. I'd shave all the hair I had if it made me grow to his height and made me millions.
