On one hand KG was REALLY mean, but on another hand… why didn’t Charlie just keep it on the court and follow the “code”. Is there a code? Is this the first time someones said this?

PS i have a real good friend who has Alopecia. I can report back later with his take on this.

DOn't cry about it over twitter -- try doing something about it on the court, Charlie.

Agreed. I don’t like how he’s trying to make it like KG has no respect for cancer victims…

I find Villanueva's comments to be more pathetic than the Vikings trying to get their 3rd round pick back.

Because KG said Charlie looks like a cancer patient, he has no empathy for cancer patients? Completely illogical argument by Charlie V.

Because KG talks a lot of trash, KG has never been in a fight, and Charlie could beat him in a fight? That doesn't make any sense. And, if you want to expose the man, why not do it on the court instead of crying about it on twitter?

Besides Villanueva's distaste for defense, I always liked him as a player. But after this, he's losing some respect from me. This guy basically went on twitter and said, "Mommy, mommy! The bully stole my toy at recess today."

I think thats exactly what he's implying.

Lets not kid our selfs, Kevin Garnett is Biff from the back to the future movies when he's on the court, he's not a nice or likeable person but its part of the game and KG is old school by now, doing things the same way bird would have done it.
"Leadership is diving for a loose ball, getting the crowd involved, getting other players involved. It`s being able to take it as well as dish it out. That`s the only way you`re going to get respect from the players"

More like “Mommy Mommy the bully yelled mean comments about my disease that has already destroyed my ability to fit in and be comfortable with my own body”

your downplaying a bit, but i agree none the less.

Poor taste by KG. I don't know if CV deserved that kind of trash talk, nor don't fault him for reporting on Twitter. He ain't the first and won't be the last to express himself via Twitter. KG did go to far in my opinion. I am getting tired of people calling out KG to fight, but he did go below the belt.

If Charlie is in fact telling the truth - I agree with Jevi here.

I love KG, and his trash talk (and most trash talk) is part of the game, but there are some things that are off limits.

The most Legendary players in the game ever all had a code of ethics, I assume. In my time, Larry, Magic and Michael all talked trash, but I am sure that they never talked about someone having a condition like Charlie's.

Now the part of challenging KG to a fight? That's childish. He's not the first to do that. If Charlie was THAT good of a player, he'd shut KG up on the court - not in a ring.

He probably should have done something about it on the court rather than use Twitter to try to embarrass KG about Cancer comments.  That is just as pathetic to me.  Add this to list of reasons twitter should be done away with.

Of course by doing it this way it limits the amount of things KG can actually do about it.

if I could hear KG on the court, I probably wouldn't like him as much

What makes you sure of that? Between the lack of Twitter preventing their opponents from spontaneously expressing their thoughts and the stigma about "whining to teacher" and making yourself look weak and easily mentally dominated, isn't it difficult to know?

Of course it's possible that none of them ever said anything other than variations of "I am a great basketball player and you are not." And it's possible that they did make comments like the one KG made, and that they are/were all in the wrong.

But somehow I doubt that KG was all that unique. The players in the NBA make fun of one another's appearance on a regular basis-- from calling Kevin McHale Frankenstein's monster to calling Sam Cassell E.T. There are jokes about fatness, baldness, mental ability, and everything else going back and forth between teammates and opponents. Sam Cassell's appearance isn't, as far as I know, related to an illness... but he can't do anything about it, either.

Is it that much of a jump, in the heat of battle, to make fun of CV's appearance as if he's any other player? When KG is concentrating everything he has on beating the other team, mentally as well as physically, might he forget that while it's OK to make fun of 99% of player appearances,  CV is in the protected class because he has a medical condition?

The comment was in phenomenally poor taste. But I have a hard time believing that it was far outside the usual standard for the situation.

Garnett will always be a trash talker. But if he made a comment pertaining to Villanueva's disease, he went too far. Say what you want about Charlie's decision to post his displeasure with Garnett on twitter. After all, he's had a history of tweeting during and right after games. I just think KG may have gone just a little too far here, far enough to a point where even Celtics fans should not excuse him for his poor conduct.

From now on, I am going to refer to him as Charlie "Cancer Patient" Villanueva any time I feel the need to mention him on this forum.  (Which I probably never have had reason to do.)

If true, that was wrong of KG.
