The most impressive part of what Rondo is doing early is what I have been pining for for years and that is his mastery of keeping the game at his pace.
When I think of the playoffs last year, the Celtcs really struggles when Rondo seemes to turn his turbo switch off. As Doc has mentioned, even when the results arent there, Rondo is pushing through and continuing to push the pace. Even on made baskets he is looking to beat the D down the court. it gets open looks for KG and the other bigs like baby who decide to bust it down the floor.
It has been his first option on nearly every play to try to push first and then pull it back to run sets if nothing is there. This kind of relentless mentality will wear teams down. Doc has given him they keys to run the show full time now and it is beautiful to watch.
Perfect example is Paul Pierce. He is scoring nearly 20 ppg and he is doing it EASILY. Hardly any isos. Just great ball movement finding him in opportunistic places on the court where he can use his skills most efficiently.
Obviously its early and obviously I am giddy, but if Rondo can continue to control the pace of game like this, we may be as dynamic offensively as we are defensively.
