From boston.com:

http://www.boston.com/sports/basketball/celtics/articles/2010/11/01/west_wafer_have_patched_things_up/?page=2

"Jermaine O’Neal performed with the second unit.

“I think it’s because Doc didn’t know if I was going to practice,’’ he said.

O’Neal said his role so far isn’t what he’s used to. “I’m not asked to play the scorer, I have to get used to just running to the boards, trying to block shots, playing defense, that’s my job,’’ he said. “And getting used to that, mentally locking in, is something I’m ready to do.

“But I can’t do my job if I’m not on the court. Fifteen years in the league, and there’s going to be things that happen, not only to myself, but to Shaq and the older guys, and we’re just going to have to figure out a way to get better, stay healthy, so we can have a good team.

“I felt pretty good. My confidence level is probably at an all-time low. It’s been rough, to be honest. I’m not going to lie. I’m disappointed, very much so."

I daresay most Celtics fans are disappointed as well - and quotes like these aren't going to help. In effect, he's complaining that he's not being asked to score?

He should be happy he got the full MLE and just buckle down and try to earn it!

What does he expect? He's been injured.  While he was injured, Big Baby took his minutes.  Now it's up to Jermaine to try to get those minutes back, which I do not think will happen because O'neal has looked lost out there and Big Baby has been great.

Jermaine has been blocking shots like a madman whenever he's healthy enough to stay on the court.

Scoring wise it's been pretty bad but he hasn't gotten a chance get into a rhythm.

I read it as he is not happy with his performance.

He is adjusting to a new role, but he says he is ready to do it.

And finally, he says he needs to get himself on the court by getting healthy.

I don't have an issue with what he is saying.

He didn't say anything I can take issue with in that interview. Jermaine seems to recognize he needs to get on the court and produce.

That's how I read it too.  Seems like a good guy.

Agreed.

This might be a good experience for Jermaine. If it gets him to figure out he isn't meant to be a scorer anymore.

Yeah, I actually think he said exactly what he was supposed to.  He admits that his confidence is hurting, and he is still struggling to try to find how he fits in, but is disappointed at how he has played.

Nothing to see here.

He's looking a bit like the "square peg in a round hole" right now.  It looks he's still struggling to find in role and how to mesh in with the others.

If he's still looking like this after 15-20 games, then I'll be concerned.

Making drama out of nothing? Pretty sure the "disappointment" is that he can't get healthy and he didn't get to start the season the way he probably would've wanted.

I read that late last night and thought 'Aren't we all.'

I liked his post defense when he was able to play in the preseason, but he's been a major disappointment so far.  Seems like he's perpetually injured.  No one can say what sort of pain or discomfort he's in but him.  That said, it may be that some guys just play through the pain and others sit.  A guy like Paul needs to be near death not to play.

Still hold out hope for this guy, but I'm sure disappointed so far.

Jermaine always says the right thing.  I'll judge him by what he does on the court, which so far isn't much.

I like what he is saying here. New team, new role, he knows what he has to do to fit in and he is trying to do just that. Mentally it's got to be tough going from a 2nd or third option on a top 5 playoff team in the East to a second unit role player getting less minutes and a much lesser role.
