The only way they'll get him is for all 32 teams to pass and then Pats sign him cheap. That is doubtful unless Randy is determined to play with the Pats, and, if the Pats are open to having him here. I am sure that this senario will be dicussed IF both parties want it to end up that way. Not sure if NFL rules prohibit such discussions between waived players and NFL teams. But... I am certain Pats can somehow get the message to Randy that if he survives waivers that Pats will be interested -- if they are.
Frankly, I don't see a big downside to re-signing him on the cheap. All cards are in Pats hands; Randy is humbled and has to prove himself, and the Pats can dump him at a moment's notice. If I thought the Pats were the odds-on favorite to win the superbowl, I wouldn't mess with it. But...I think the Pats are over-achieving right now.
