From Chris Thompson today at Bleacher Report:

Who is the best Sixth Man in the NBA? Is it Jamal Crawford? Is it Antwan Jamison? Or is it Ben Gordon?

Well, it actually isn't any of these. You would think big names like these would be the best sixth man in the NBA, but it is actually someone that not everybody knows. Some people call him Shrek. Others call him Big Baby. Now you should know who I am talking about.

Yes, Glen "Big Baby" Davis is indeed the best sixth man in the NBA. He brings so much to the Celtics off the bench. He brings hustle, skill, confidence, everything you would want from a star in the NBA.

Well, why is Big Baby the best sixth man in the NBA? For one, he has great hustle. Hustle is a key asset to being a good NBA player. The other day, I was watching the Celtics vs the Knicks and there was a loose ball. Well, Glen Davis was pretty far away and there were like four Knicks surrounding the ball. This is where Big Baby showed his hustle. He dove for the ball and we got it back. That is what everyone likes in a player, someone who is willing to sacrifice their body for one possession.

Next, Glen Davis is very strong and can move his body really well in mid-air. When Big Baby jumps up for the ball, he doesn't just try to grab it, he will fight for it. He can rip the ball out of Dwight Howard's hands if he wants to; I've seen him do it. But another thing that amazes me about Glen is that he can move his body in mid-air really well for a big man. When he goes up for a shot, half the time he will have to adjust his body to get the shot he wants and it goes in 99% of the time. He makes it look so easy.

Last, Big Baby can shoot the ball well. When he is open for a jumper, defending players wish that they didn't leave him open because Big Baby has long range. He can drain those shots just inside the arch and I even saw him drill a three pointer against the Knicks on Friday. He can shoot very well for a big man.

So, Big Baby is the best sixth man in the league. You may be thinking, heck no, but that would be a bad thought. Glen Davis is way underrated and it won't be long until he earns a starting spot for the Boston Celtics.
End

I definately agree with this guy. Good Article.

I agree, Glen Davis is the best sixth man in the NBA...after three games, anyway.  A little early to be calling this one.

I say trade him now before his stock drops.

JK!  ;D

Had to say it before The Big Baby Haters start the Bashing. He is def in the running to get the award, and a big paycheck next summer.

I like how he and Rondo have developed great chemistry on the court. It rivals the Rondo to KG connection from few years back.

Really, best 6th man in the league?

Are we just going this year so far? if so:

Zaza:
12/9/1 in 22 mpg

Boobie Gibson:
12/3/5.5 in 29 mpg

Taj Gibson:
16/11/2 in 34 mpg

Ty Thomas:
16.5/5.5/.5 in 25.5 mpg

Rodney Carney:
10/3.5/2.0 in 18 mpg

Ben Gordon:
22/2.5/2 in 27 mpg

Shelden Williams:
8/14.5/.5 in 25.5 mpg

Derrick Favors:
9.0/8.5 in 20 mpg

Anthony Tolliver:
10.0/7.5/2.0 (and 2.5 blocks) in 25.5 mpg

Corey Maggette:
19.5/6/1 in 25 mpg

Darrell Arthuer:
16.5/4/.5 in 28.5 mpg

Matt Barnes
8.5/5.0/1.0 in 17 mpg

Wilson Chandler
20.5/7/1 in 31.5 mpg

Serge Ibaka
12.0/9.5/0 (3 blocks per) in 30 mpg

Hakim Warrick
10/5.7/1.3 in 20 mpg

Francisco Garcia
20/3/3 in 32.5 mpg

George Hill
16/4/3 in 28 mpg

I have a hard time seeing Davis winning this with his 14.3/5.3/.7 in 28.7 mpg. Not saying everyone above has definitely been better this year, but if you correct for minutes, most of the above are in his ballpark, and several are clearly much better.

Yea... There is no way Big Baby is the Best 6th man in the league. Its not even close.

Wilson Chandler at the moment is. Also I would much rather have any of these 6th men; Smith, Crawford, Gibson (both actually), Thomas, Gordon. There are many better 6th man then Davis despite his good play so far this year.

Yes, it is early yet. I really think he's going to get even better.

We're truly lucky to have him on our team.

Celtics have all the best players, best chemistry (except Delonte, for now, ahem), best attitude, best coach. We're blessed with the likes of The Big Ticket, The Beast, The Pure Shooter and Rajon, of superior intelligence. Our team is funny, fun, caring for the kids in their community, full of great personalities and talents that mesh together. Even the team colors are classy. I just love the Boston Celtics.

Go Big Baby!!!

I hate this era of 24/7 always on media where everyone has to be writing something about someone every minute of the day. Too much pressure to produce copy leads to stories like this. We are three games into the season and someone is already declaring Glen Davis best 6th man. I love what he is done so far, but this is a joke.

Well, I can see your point of view, Vinnie. But I don't think it's a joke, per se. Fans and writers have been analysing players before the season even started and will continue to do so throughout the season. I don't find it inappropriate to get excited about a player who's doing well at the beginning of the season and making predictions about what will happen.
But I hear you.

The original article was horrible. Goes in 99% of the time? This guy is clueless.

I like Baby a lot on our team, but we should have higher standards for sports writing. Are we really going to post horrible writing just because if praises people we like.

I really like BBD...and I hope he has a fantastic year as a Celtic...that said, 3 games is WAY too early to shower such accolades.

  • Rondo = Good
If the Bucks do well (as they should) and Maggs comes off the bench consistently, I'd expect him to win it.  He's a very efficient scorer and can legitimately score close to 20 points a night in 25-28 minutes off the bench.

Pretty much what I was thinking. Maggette might not play 35 or 40 minutes, but he scores so many points when the clock isn't ticking. He has such an unbelievable knack for getting to the line. I'm still a little upset Golden State uprooted our MLE offer to him a couple years ago. He would have been awesome here.

I'm extremely pleased to see this production from Glen, though. I'm certainly not going to take it for granted.. If he can shoot over 50 percent from the field and grab a few boards this year I'll be happy. Don't expect him to win any award, maybe, MAYBE most improved but that's it. I think he'll get a solid 25-30 minutes this year, so it's possible.

Now if we can get Nate going our bench is going to be really solid when Delonte comes back.

Agreed.  I think Baby is doing great, but let's not get carried away. lol

I think it may take delmonte to settle nate down.  The two of them seemed to work so well together in the preseason - and logically their games are very compatible.
