Ya'll are pickin' nits.
Just let the man play, will ya?
Be happy you have him. Perk, JO, Shaq, Erm are all hurt and he's having to play both center and power forward. Hope he doesn't end up hurt too because of the constant switch in positions. No wonder he doesn't know his role.
Maybe Doc should have anticipated these injuries more than he has. Seems like shoddy planning somehow.
Ya'll are complaining and nitting about the only big player we have who is healthy and he's doing a dang good job.
Praise the man; he deserves it.

I think there is a difference between praising him and saying things that aren't true about him. Like for instance saying he's the best 6th man in the NBA is like saying Paul Pierce is the best scoring 3 in the NBA.

While I don't personally think that BBD (or anyone else on the Celts) are going to end up in the running for 6th man of the year, you and Fan from VT are both saying that he wouldn't be 6th man of the year as of now like it's a fact. Clearly it's just your opinion. You may very well be right, but obviously you have no way of confirming your suspicions.

Well right now, with the current production through 3 games for the rest of the league, its a fact..no?

I mean, especially (if?) when Kendrick, Shaq and JO are all 100%, or even Shaq and JO, BBD will get less burn. Plus, he doesn't board, and his scoring is just 'good', but not great.

I guess its opinion, but what's the other case? Davis is going to get more than 29 minutes per game?

well i would consider it "educated opinion" as we've both gone beyond the process of:
davis looks better > davis comes off the bench > therefore davis is the best bench guy in the league

and tried to position ourselves as neutral, non-celtic fans treating all teams equally and comparing roles across teams with a mix of objective data and observation.

i mean, not all opinions are equally sound; research and data does still matter.

He'd need to take another 4-5, maybe more, shots a game to get his scoring average up to 6th man of the year levels. I don't think there will be enough shots for him.

For referrence Jamal Crawford jacked up 14 FGA and got to the line 4 times a game last year. BBD is currently averaging 10 FGA and 1 FTA. (Usage of Crawford 25.8, Usage of Davis 16.8)

Though upon looking at the history of the award I do think Davis has a chance for it. Antwan Jamison won the award in Dallas with similar numbers. Though I think the C's team will have to "overachieve" for him to win it. Typically that's how you get the award.

Well it's been an interesting discussion anyway. I don't think I use hyperbole with Glen Davis when I say that he is really showing change this year and looking good. Of course I don't know if he'll win 6th man, nor does anyone. But I do know that the Boston bench is thought of in this league as pretty awesome, by some of the top writers.
Please don't ask me who. I am not a stats nut or good at memorizing alot of data.. Ijust know what I see and I like it.

Other people might have gone beyond that process as well. If he keeps playing as well as he is (which I don't expect either) and the Celts keep winning with him playing like that he could be in the mix.

and tried to position ourselves as neutral, non-celtic fans treating all teams equally and comparing roles across teams with a mix of objective data and observation.

I think that's harder than it looks. The data's easy but the observation is, for most people, skewed because they see so much more of the Celts than other players. Some people say, for instance, that I have an overly high opinion of Rondo because I'm a fan of the Celts. I think that they see him every night and know his flaws, but in general they compare him to ESPN highlights and box scores of his opponents. People said he didn't have a good game against Cleveland (I didn't see the game) but if they see that another pg puts up 18/4/9 with 3 steals they would have a different opinion of how that player did.

i mean, not all opinions are equally sound; research and data does still matter.

On one hand it does, but I don't think (and I'm not going to check) that the player with the highest scoring average or best overall stats always wins the 6th man award. Your opinion might be sound, and I might agree with it, but you're still giving your opinion about what the opinion of others will be and treating it like a fact.
