Can we agree on what we'd like him to produce? Perhaps by the end of the year a stat line like this:
74 games, 24:36 mpg average
FG's: 2.3/5.6; 41.8%
3PT: 1.4/3.8; 38.0%
FT: 1.3/1.6 80.9%
Rebs, Ast, Stl: 4.4, 1.5, 1.0
Points: 7.4
This was Posey off the bench in the title season.
Quisy's better. Probably fewer 3 attempts, but as many or more points in as many shots. Probably more assists, similar steals...
Though I do like the nickname "Smokey Q."
I don't think there is any way Quis gets 24 MPG on this team.
Here's how the lineup shakes out in 7 more games:
The ONeals
KG / BBD
Pierce / Ray Allen
Ray Allen / D West
Rondo / Nate
Once Perk comes back I guess they'll play 5 big men (seems like one of the ONeals will be out every game anyways.) Or maybe they can trade JO.
So I see Quis picking up scraps at SF on nights when there is a big SF in the game. An alternative would be to start Delonte and play Ray Allen as a swing man off the bench, but its too radical for Doc (which is probably a good thing.) I think Quis will be at ~5-10 minutes a night, unless we see a headline like "Delonte gone missing, Wafer suspected."
There is 0 chance Doc goes with a 9-man rotation and uses Ray/Paul in a platoon. Literally 0, actually, we'll say 10% chance, and it's only if Marquis regresses to last season form again. He's already proven pretty capable, and Doc is going to start getting Paul/Ray considerable rest as we hit the heart of the season. He does not want them int he mid 30s through the year, 28-30 minutes a night. I also think he has a lot of trust in that second unit, who, when complete and un-injured/suspended have reportedly given the starters a run for their money in practice, and looked fantastic in preseason.
You will absolutely see a line up of Nate, West, Daniels, Baby, and Shaq (or JO, whoever isn't starting) for extended stretches through this year, I would bet anything on that.
