I can't even believe the reactions I'm reading from people... you want to release Delonte or expect him to be released for THIS? Are you kidding me? This stuff happens all the time in pro sports. Competitors clash.

"Release him, Delonte is a nut bag." - Seriously? Not only is he one of our best bench players, but this honestly is nowhere near a good reason to release a player. Bill Walker got face to face with KG in camp too. Hell, KG has punched a teammate at practice.

It happens all the time, it just isn't always available for the media to blow up ("West has had multiple incidents with teammates already" - oh give me a break).

I think Danny and Doc are smart enough to not cut a guy just because he and the 3rd string two-guard got into a little scuffle after tempers flared up at practice.

Well, if the sources from the Hoopsworld article are correct and Danny & Doc "have grown tired of the confrontations" and "his confrontationsl ways have grown very old in the lockerroom" then I think the organization has every right to release the guy.

They don't need a major headache on this team right now.  Especially not from a bench player.

Stuff like that always gets released, but only when something happens. If Delonte doesn't ever punch Wafer, we never hear a single word about him angering other teammates or being confrontational. Yet, now once this one thing happens, all of the reports suggest that he has been on everyone's bad side all along rah rah. I really don't buy it.

Well, we should find out relatively quickly one way or another.

Maybe maybe not.

He could be as disruptive as everyone says but still stick with the team.

My hope is that once he can get back on the court the routine of the NBA will help level all this out. Let him pick fights with other teams lol.

all that said, i'm waiting till after someone otehr than Hoopsworld reports on the story. I'm not a fan of their reporting --- often their "articles" have errors of fact or faulty opinions.

Good point.  Hoopsworld is about as reliable as realgm in my opinion (so, not very).  Although, with the details he has in that article, this guy is really sticking his neck out there if he doesn't have good information.  If he has any aspirations to eventually moving on to a more credible site/paper, he better hope his report is accurate, because his name is out there.

More details are emerging, and it looks like Wafer his kind of "guilty" :

Quote
Delonte West has been livid with Von Wafer for days, source says, and Hoopsworld.com reports it escalated into fight at facility today.

West believed Wafer was responsible for published anonymous quote saying it was "obvious" when West hadn't taken his medicine, source says.

Source

Bingo. Delonte and Wafer got physical at practice.. like I said, competitors clash. Von didn't like it, so he made a joke about Delonte's mental issues. Delonte rightfully took offense and popped him. That's what I'm getting from all the reports.

Rightfully?  Sorry, but no.  Wafer didn't touch Delonte.  Delonte had no right to touch Wafer.

I didn't say he rightfully attacked him, I said he rightfully took offense to the comment Wafer made about his medical situation. From there, it escalated. I am sure Wafer wasn't as peachy-clean throughout the incident like the reports, which have likely been leaked by Wafer's camp, either.

EDIT: And yes, it's HOOPSWORLD... clearly something in the report is incorrect, just like every other article they've ever published.

You think Von Wafer has a camp?

Wafer certainly has at least an agent.

I don't need this distraction. Why could they not keep this under wraps?
Two reasons, Wafer might have leaked it or his camp might have.

Another possibility, the C's could be leaking it in an attempt to make West realize that he's close to the door.

Or maybe someone from the press was there or close by when it happened.

This could have more to do with Mrs. Wafer's recent trip to Boston to visit her son...

Wafer's camp?  He can barely get an invite to camp...

Seriously, a fight isn't that big a deal in itself, but rarely is a fight anything in itself except in the heat-of-competition thing that sometimes happens.  Even in those cases, though, since basketball is, by definition, competition, the "no punching" expectation is quite realistic and appropriate in my opinion.

What in Hades has happened to the UBUNTU that won the title in 08?  Perhaps it went the way of the humility and belief in the need for the team to get better that we have lost since 2008.

The best way to make lemonade out of this situation is to flip these two non-guaranteed contracts with next year's first rounder for a player of value.
