If he doesn't get injured Blake should run away with Rookie of the Year is the preseason and this game are any indication at all.  John Wall will give him a good challenge, and DeMarcus will have a solid campaign as well, but Blake looks like something else entirely.

That said, this was a night of ridiculous performances.

46 pts from Monta Ellis...okay.
36 points 16 rebounds from Luis Scola, following up a 15 rebound performance?  Woah.

18 pts 19 rebounds 3 blocks from Joakim Noah.  What?
28 pts 10 rebounds 6 assists 2 steals 1 block from Russell Westbrook.  Holy crap.
28 points 9 rebounds 3 blocks from Roy "Hungry Hungry" Hibbert. Dayum.

Okay, we're only 2 games into the season and these are great games from players who will be very up and down.  But still, we're 2 games into the season and the current MVP candidates after 2 games don't include people named Wade, James, Durant, or Bryant.  That doesn't mean anything, it's just amusing.

I watched these two go head to head on LP.  Monta was ridiculous tonight - 18 of 24 from the field, and most of them weren't easy looks.  Many of them came right in Battier's face.  He got to the line in the last couple of minutes in the fourth quarter, and missed 3 of 6 FT's - it was almost like those were too easy compared to the rest of his night.  Just a remarkable explosion from him.

Scola is underrated.  He can't jump, isn't fast, and isn't long for his position.  But he's strong, busts it on every play, and has a knack for being in the right place at the right time.  He had a string of what seemed like 5 possessions in the fourth quarter where the Rockets would jack up a shot and miss, only to have Scola sneak in from nowhere and tip it back.  His game isn't as sexy as guys like LeBron, Dwight and Rose, but his hustle is fun to watch.

Fun game to watch.

I told Lebron to go to the Clippers and one reason was Blake Griffin.  Get out of the East.  Take down the Kingdom of Kobe in L.A.  etc....

but no, he wanted to clog it up with his buddies.

I don't think it does Griffin's performance justice, but here are some clips:

Reminds me of Shawn Kemp pre 10 kids and Big Mac fetish.

This guy is going to be good if he stays healthy.

At this point, the biggest thing he has working against him is that he is playing with Baron Davis.

I was thinking the same thing.  A far more skilled version of Kemp, and though it sounds ridiculous- maybe more athletic.  I love this guy.

I think it's funny how LeBron turned down Griffin and Amare who were both built to play with him, to go play with someone who just does the same stuff he does.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

  • Yup
the ballhandling and pass on the break were more impressive than the dunks.  There's hope in Clipperville!
Yup

Yeah it sounds ridiculous, and it just might be.  I agree fully on skilled at this point...but more athletic?

Having said that though, you also could be dead on...only time will tell.

I'd say Griffin is quicker and can jump higher but Kemp was much stronger.
