well, it is a stupid rule. interesting to see how Kobe and Dwight will fare this season. they'll be suspended by... the 16th game they play?

and at this rate, if we make it to the Finals, i wouldn't be surprised to see us trotting out occasional starting lineups of Rondo, Allen, Daniels, Davis and Erden. Against probably an LA lineup of Fisher, Shannon Brown, Odom, Gasol, Bynum.

Why am I thinking that this rule will not be enforced on the likes of Kobe (the biggest whiner out there) and a lot of other superstars? We should make a thread were we track these calls. Seriously.

Would mr. Stern please slither back from whence he came?

Well, I'm optimistic that this rule is applied evenly. I'm glad KG got ejected now, vice on Oct 26 or beyond.

It already isn't. I caught the laker's moscow game and Kobe whined after every call on him/ no call just as much as he always does, no Tech.

Celtics have a rep, and were going to suffer for it under these new rules.

Interesting - then maybe Doc needs to send footage of this obvious discrepancy to NBA offices?

If that doesn't work - Congress? We already saw MLB and NFL before Congress...........

I watched the Knicks broadcast - loved Tommy's reaction lol (thanks for the link Bird).

This is an incredibly dumb move my Stern (not surprising).

They are trying to take the emotional aspect out of the game. Guys can't even be upset with themselves? Doesn't make any sense. Why can't you inquire about a borderline call? Are these officials perfect? Do they not make mistakes (LOL)? You should be allowed to state your case so the next time it happens maybe the ref sees it differently.

And you just KNOW they won't be calling this fairly. Guys like Kobe and Dwight may get called early in the season so it isn't obvious, but they won't collect two in a game or more than 18 in the season. Good thing 'Sheed retired lol.

The more appropriate action by the NBA would have been to find competent referees.

Yeah... only in the preseason. Right!

This is going to bite us in the butt in the worse possible time, yes the play-offs . One of these games we are going to be getting completely shafted by the refs and someone (Doc, KG, or some other key player) will speak up and just like that he's gone! with no warning. People are going to talk about how unfair it was, but the justification will be "it's in the rule book". I think there's a 50% chance it happens to us 100% chance it happens to someone in the play-offs.

The NBA where extending series happenw.

...My hate for Stern grows deeper and deeper by the day.

EXACTLY...it gives them the easiest opportunity to change a game or influence a game without people able to properly scrutinize them. KG's fury wasn't even obvious on camera and it looked like other players did and/or said a lot worse, but there's no way for us to know.

It gives an already terrible crew more leeway and power to be terrible. And the coaches and players can't do anything about it or they will see their paychecks lose BIG chunks.

I wouldn't count on that. I am not a Stern lover but this is a classic Stern move (see the many many rules that have been "enforced" in pre-seasons past and disappeared a month into the season), make them fear it in the pre-season, get it in their heads and then let it run its course.

It has already been said perfectly so let me quote:

Don't worry too much about it - they're deliberately blowing quick Ts in the preseason to try and change how the players act in the real games.  They'll ramp it down a little when the season starts but still call a bunch of borderline ones, then they'll dial it back for the rest of the year.

Anyone think Stern is doing this for the money?  Don't players get fined when they get techs?  More techs, more money. :(

TP. Quoted for Truth.

What disturbs me is how Rajon Rondo is able to keep his cool when he has veteran teammates on his squad who in the same situation would just flip-out and get a technical foul or get ejected. Huge props for him being able to maintain his composure out there, especially seeing how he is prone to being the victim of hard fouls because he is good at finishing in the paint.

This is not the typical rule change that will go quietly into the night as the regular season progresses....I wish it were.  Very few techs of this sort have to be called for the outcomes of games to be dramatically influenced.

When the games start to become really important, which is quicker than we think (in the eyes of coaches especially), coaches will begin screaming for techs on opposing players.  And why shouldn't they, after having lost a key player earlier in the game only to watch the other team's star complain to the refs without consequence, tech-free because for some deep-seated, unknowable, psychological pot-pourrie of reasons the ref felt less menaced by the latter player's whining....

I haven't watched Ok. City much, but aren't they a relatively quiet team under Durant's leadership, no testy vets, etc...?  I say hand them the trophy today.

And another thing.....

If the league really wants to try this stupid stuff, they should at least train the refs in the art of warning a player.  The you're-suddenly-gone approach is ridiculous and creepily fascistic.
