From the AP:
Quote
NEW YORK — Kevin Garnett has been ejected from Boston’s game against the New York Knicks after picking up two technical fouls in the second quarter.

Boston’s Jermaine O’Neal was called for an offensive rebounding foul, and was whistled for a tech after questioning the call for too long. Meanwhile, Garnett was near midcourt and said something to referee Kane Fitzgerald, who issued him a technical foul.

Fitzgerald turned and walked away, then quickly turned back and threw Garnett out after the Celtics’ All-Star kept talking.

NBA players have been warned this season that officials will call more technical fouls for overt gestures, as well as being too demonstrative and lingering too long to question calls.

Great. So the fun begins.

Don't worry too much about it - they're deliberately blowing quick Ts in the preseason to try and change how the players act in the real games.  They'll ramp it down a little when the season starts but still call a bunch of borderline ones, then they'll dial it back for the rest of the year.

I didn't see this as I was eating dinner. I'm sure by mid season they'll have stopped calling the quick Ts.

I think the league is trying to kill Tommy.  I can't think of any other reason for these new rules.

Exactly.  The superstars know that the fans don't pay to see the refs.  And so does the League.

Then can someone let Stern know that.

Tommy was just furious and just couldn't quit talking about it. He said that is wrong, terrible, unbelievable, etc. He was highly peeved. And I was very, very glad he spoke up about it. We're going to need a lot of important people complaining about this horribly wrong decision about techs that is going to ruin games, especially when they are being called arbitrarly on one team and not the other.

Funny about it killing Tommy! (Not really, though)
Tommy is just the best and I really love his commentary. He really knows his game. The other announcer (name?) was kidding him about wanting to suit up and go out on the court because he was so mad about the techs.

The refs were pretty bad and we were getting a lot of BS calls but maybe just maybe KG was cursing at the ref, be it in a sarcastic laughing matter? I wouldnt doubt it looked to me like it was a frustration T Amare blew right by him on the previous possession

Yeah... only in the preseason. Right!

This is going to bite us in the butt in the worse possible time, yes the play-offs . One of these games we are going to be getting completely shafted by the refs and someone (Doc, KG, or some other key player) will speak up and just like that he's gone! with no warning. People are going to talk about how unfair it was, but the justification will be "it's in the rule book". I think there's a 50% chance it happens to us 100% chance it happens to someone in the play-offs.

The NBA where extending series happenw.

...My hate for Stern grows deeper and deeper by the day.

"The NBA - It's STUPID!"

Maybe Stern can give that to the League's marketing department.
