Outside the box thinking:

THe emergence of the Beast of Erdin makes Perkins trade bait in February.......

Then we can trade Perkins to Portland for Greg Oden  :o  :-X  ???

I like to think outside the box in certain situations to keep egos in check and rethink possible. Nothing personal. It is part of the rules of 33 that govern my life.

I think Perkins was already potential trade bait in February, providing he doesn't agree to a reasonable extension before then.  But I don't think an Oden trade would make enough sense for either team.

Perk's not getting traded unless it's the perfect deal.

I think that might be overstating things.  I agree that they are not going to give him away, but if the rest of the big men are healthy and fitting in well, and they do not think they can resign him, I think they will explore their options.

I could realistically see a Perk/filler for Battier deal making sense for both teams in the right circumstances.

I think that drza44 and a few others mentioned it briefly here - but I hope Perk realizes that Kevin Garnett is (IMO) the anchor of the defense.

Yes - Perk is a top 5 defensive center, which is why I believe the man should stay in Boston. But - at the end of the day - KG has made Perk look really good on defense over the last few years.

KG will make Shaq (even at 38) a better defender, too - I believe that. No way that KG will let Shaq (or JO) be taken advantage of defensively, while he's in the game.

Perk - don't forget your Main Man - KG.
With all due respect to KG, Perkins has actually pasted him as anchor of the defense. I'm sorry but we all know KG the last two years hasn't been a 100%. Meanwhile Perk has 150 and 132 blocks the last 2 years. KG does saves Perk with the ground he covers guarding towards the hoop, but til he plays like Defensive Player of the Year again, it's Perk for now. Cut that trade Perk business!

Perk is to important to our defense to get rid of him in a trade like that.

We'll see.  We've now seen for two straight seasons that when KG goes down, keeping all of the other 4 starters the same (including Perk) the defense falls off the map.  And this was with Thibs still here.  This season we'll start off with no Perk and no Thibs.  If the defense looks as strong as ever, IMO there will be no remaining valid argument for Perk being the anchor of the defense.  There's not much of one now, to be honest...in fact, just about every piece of evidence that there is argues strongly against Perk being the anchor...but at that point it'd be officially over.

Oden might be the only player in the league who would make Shaq and JO look spry and youthful by comparison. So, there's that.

Shaq is my boo but I had to say... some of you don't know what you have in Perkins! He is right (it could have been left unsaid), they can't do what he does and vice versa! Shaq has 2yrs left and JO is not far behind... why would you want to give up Perkins? I would would give up ANYONE (no hesitation) for Shaq, but I don't own a team so I can afford to let my fandom get the best of me... but a rational person (even w/ both a healthy Shaq and JO) would not give up Perk b/c what/who's even worth taking in return? Other centers know the D Perk gives you... he's one of the few centers left you should even mention on D! Y'all underestimate/under-appreciate that guy... you will sing a different tune if he leaves!

Yeah, they can't do what you do.   Drop easy passes with stone hands.  He is a good defender but offensively the dude is challenged.

I don't necessarily want to give up Perkins, but he will be a free agent after this season and it is possible that he will leave for a contract that has more years and more money than is wise to give someone like him.  Rondo received a 5-year, $55 million extension.  Would you give Perkins the same deal?  If another team is willing to give even more, do you try to outbid them?

I'd rather trade Baby than Perkins.  Perkins has proven in the past that he's willing to take a hometown discount.  Baby is far more likely to leave, so better to trade him while we have the chance.

Baby isn't likely to get too overpaid. Undersized PFs don't get paid nearly as much as 6' 10" centers.

There’s one thing that J.O. and Shaq can do better, WIN TIP OFFS! I’ve seen more opening tips won this preseason than the past three seasons LOL.

I don't think we should sign him just because he defends Dwight well, but because he's one of the better defensive bigs out there. But I do think that how he fares against Howard is more important over the next few years than how he does against Bogut or Kaman or Lpoez.

Shaq defends Howard and Bynum better than Perkins. Lakers got owned by Cavs last reason.

just curious if you have watched Perkins play the last three years... Shaq is LIGHTYEARS behind Perk on "D".. lakers got owned by the cavs last year for one reason... the self-promoting jerk they call Lebron not shaq... why do u think the celts gave the mid level to JO and not Shaq?? because even JO is the better defender

Say what you want about Shaq or his D (Perk is obviously better) but he can hang with the best bigs out there (38yrs old or not) on man D! You are wrong in saying that it was LeBron... you must not have watched those games nor the ones from seasons passed (ask LeBron how they fared against those teams BEFORE Shaq)! When it comes to the games against the Lakers it was Shaq and Z's play that won those games... the games (3)that Shaq played in against DH it was definitely how well Shaq played Howard that helped them win (the one they lost that Shaq played in was not b/c of what Howard was doing but that the other guys got very hot very fast)! You take things overboard in your defense of Perkins when everyone already knows who the better defender is... why do you need to throw Shaq under the bus?
