I hope all of the Lasme naysayers end up with egg on their face when the final 15 man roster is announced.
Why would the roster cut leave "egg" on people's faces?

Lasme would have to produce at the NBA level to do that. So far I haven't been impressed. The other canidates for the 15th slot have been equally blah....

I'm begining to think we'll just have 14.

Because he has done something in the regular season NBA that we should have all seen?

He has played 16 games in the NBA, back in 07/08.

At best, he is the teams 7th big man?  Possible 8th?

I will be surprised if he makes the team.

And even more surprised if he lasts the season.

Von has looked horrible.

But having said that we should keep him.  I would rather have a proven NBA player who could win/lose us games.  Then the other choices we have.

You must have missed what Lasme has been doing if you have not been impressed. He has FAR outplayed West, Wafer and Harangody. It's not even close. Does that mean he will make the roster -- no -- but he certainly deserves a real close look the rest of the preseason. As for egg on the face, I am talking about all of those who continue to talk down Lasme's abilities as a player. I watched him for four years at UMass and saw his improvement. He can play the game.

Most here said the same thing about Leon Powe....BBd as a big man, only plays hard when someone threatens his playing time. Every time doc played sheldon, bbd went out there as hard as he could. oneil x 2 are not young, neither is kg or any of our big men. Lasme will also be our youngest big man with energy, jumps and good position knowledge. Throwing away a guy who not only GETS the ball, but knows what to do with it. A guy like this, with his rebounds and inside play, he gets the other team in FOUL trouble EARLY, other teams HATE guys like this.....that is why LEON was so valuable. If the guy can jump, gets good position and can dunk on a dime, the other team will foul him constantly, one big man does it 3x, out till past half time. No one else really goes at it like he does..fearless...a guy that wants it this bad is great to have...!

I've watched the pre season, and he hasn't impressed me. He hasn't shown me that he's a good rebounder and he also hasn't shown any sort of offensive game.

He's a binkie of yours, that's cool. But he's not lighting it up by any measure.

On the flip side of this - we're talking grooming mode for Lasme? I thought Wafer was already NBA-Experienced?

Could Lasme give us more than Wafer? With the NBA Experience factored in? I thought Wafer was going to be our 3pt specialist, but from what I've read he hasn't played well yet.

Has Wafer's D been better than Lasme's? Who has played better overall? Even though it appears that Wafer hasn't played well yet, should we still keep him?

Not that it matters, but the team has apparently been treating Wafer like a de facto member of the roster:

Quote
The 15 contract players, including Von Wafer, occupied the 15 stalls inside the Celtics locker room. Camp invitees Stephane Lasme and Mario West don't have lockers in the main room.

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post?id=4677126

That makes sense with the contract situation, etc., but for those who like to read tea leaves, maybe it means something.  Or it means absolutely nothing at all.

If he was trying to make those teams, he might of had a chance.  Though, he would have been far behind those two as well because of his age.  Upside of a younger player outweighs the upside of a 27 year old.

Not to mention every 2nd round pick I have seen Ainge draft had been given at least one year.

Not now with the depth the Celtics have.  KG, Perk, Shaq, JO, and Davis are all clearly NBA players.  Edrin is a 7 foot project.  Harangody is a 2nd round pick this year, so he is safe.

So that is 7 big men.  Do the Celtics need a project 8th big man that is 27 year old?   Can almost 50% of their roster be big men?

He is up against the numbers game.

Now notice I have not said a thing about his game in this whole argument.  Let's be honest, at best, he has a fringe NBA game.  If he was trying to hook onto a lotto type team or a team weak on big men, he would have a legitimate shot.

But not on a title contending team that already has two big men projects ahead of him.

Given that three of their non-bigs are Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, and Rajon Rondo and that Garnett, Perkins, and Los Dos O'Neals are either injured or are injury risks, yes, they can have a lot of big men on the roster.

What the Celtics need is someone who can play small forward.  If Lasme can step in right away as a defensive specialist at the 3 who can play 5 minutes per game as needed and Von Wafer can't defend at the position, then Lasme is the better choice.

Based on what?  Has he played any minutes at SF yet?  If so, was he effective?

If the Celtics need an NBA SF, then get an NBA SF.   Don't get a fringe NBA PF just because he is smaller and more athletic.

I don't think that Von Wafer is an NBA SF either.  I'm not sure if the Celtics sign him if Delonte West had become available earlier.

Mario West might be the better choice, as he actually has an NBA track record of playing non-garbage minutes for Atlanta (albeit really weird minutes).  He's like a poor man's Tony Allen, inferior to TA on both offense and defense, but he is a capable defender.

Of course, West is pretty much to Atlanta what Lasme could be for Boston: a hometown hero who gets by based on defensive ability and effort.

I don't think Von Wafer is an answer either.  I think he has a chance of sticking around for the beginning of the season only to be waived or stuck into a trade to make money match (while the other team then waives him for a little cap saving)

I don't think the  Celtics have their 15th man in their camp right now.
