I like Delonte West as 2nd point guard. Has that been considered. If push comes to shuv..

I think it will come into consideration when they shorten the rotation for the playoffs.  For the regular season though, I think they will go with both Nate and West playing together and sharing the ballhandling duties a bit.  Do two combo guards = 1 PG and 1 SG?

I think Erden is a lock with Perk hurt so it comes down to which of the wings.  Wafer seems to be having trouble even playing to the level he played at in Houston a few years ago but at least he as proved he can play at that level.  I think he is more likely than the 2 guys who have never really played at a serviceable NBA level.

It's too early; there are still seven preseason games left.
Exacty - theres no way you can pick who gets cuts or stays off one and the 1st preseason game

Question for everybody,

when we look at the bench are we assuming that

Nate will play SG and defend pgs, and West will play pg and defend sg's?

I don't think so.  I think they'll both act in tandem as combo guards, but Nate will usually handle the initiation of the offense in most sets.

(For the Rondo lovers   ;))

There is no one PG that can replace Rondo on the floor.  That's why when he comes out, the Celtics put two PGs on the floor.

This thread was made to continue throughout the pre-season...

That’s why I made it so you can change your votes. (even though it didn’t seem to work out that way.)

20 out of 61 people think that Von Wafer should make the team?

I think i’d rather have Gerald Green

Doc doesn't sound happy with Wafer:

Quote
Wafer, whose contract is not fully guaranteed and who has admitted he's in a dogfight for a final roster spot, has done little to distinguish himself on the court (other than wearing a pair of Rondo's bright green Nike shoes). He played for more than nine minutes Thursday and did not put up a single shot, not exactly what the Celtics are looking for from a player whose biggest attribute is supposed to be his scoring.

The technical fouls, especially at what turned out to be a critical juncture in the game, didn't help his cause.

"I don't love [Wafer's technicals]," said a clearly peeved Rivers. "I’m just going to stop there."

Wafer has looked terrible so far.  I thought he had the roster spot locked up, but I'm not as sure any more.  I don't think Mario West will make the team -- I think Avery Bradley duplicates his defense and can play better offense -- but I could see the team going with Lasme or keeping the roster spot open.

I'd be curious to know when the Celtics have to make the final decision on whether to fully guarantee Wafer's deal.  If it's at the start of the season, I could see him getting cut.  If it's later (like in December, like the Celts have used in the past) then I could see Wafer making the team and filling in during Delonte's absence.

Of course, there are six more preseason games left, so a lot is left to be shown.

As bad as Von Wafer is playing now, I'd be amazed if he showed anything in the remainder of training camp that would convince Danny and Doc to keep him around.

That said, it's not like Von Wafer hasn't proven himself at the NBA level. He showed himself to be a quality rotation player while with the Rockets two years ago. Writing him off because of a poor performance in training camp would be short sighted.

Time and patience is what is required with Von Wafer. Give him until Christmas to see if he can get it together and make the decision then.

Agreed with your take.  I think there's a decent possibility that the spot remains open.  With JO out with injury, Perk out with injury, are the Cs confident enough in Erden going into the season?  I don't know.  I wouldn't be surprised if they try to bring in another big...  That seems to me to be a bigger priority than the wing and guard spots.  Especially with the emphasis on keeping the old guys mins down (Shaq and KG).

If they want to keep Lasme around, they should waive Harangody.
