We also sent a 2012 7th round pick.  This keeps getting better and better

Wow....just wow. Bill needs to not be in charge of personal  anymore. Between the drafts, adiluis, the seymore trade and now this, he's just not a very good gm.

Great coach, killing us since he took over the front office in 06 and Scott p left town.

The way I look at it, we traded a 4th and a 7th rounder for a 3rd rounder and 3 years of career-prime work from possibly the second best receiver of all time. That seems like a pretty good deal to me.
A better way to look at it is that you traded a 1 year of great WR play and a 7th round pick for a third round pick.

The past was already a sunk cost.

A guy who caught 9 pases for 139 yards this season.  The reason he was mad is because he isnt getting the production he usually does and is in a contract year so this is costing him money.  Talk about a team player.
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

More sources are now saying Moss had a heated argument with Bill O'Brien at halftime of the Dolphins game, some calling it an "outburst."  Moss didn't have a single pass thrown his way in the 2nd half.  Maybe this has been brewing for some time and the halftime incident was the last straw.

From the report I heard, it sounds like O'Brien might have escalated that a lot more than was necessary.  Moss seemed to make a pretty innocuous comment ("let's get something going"), and it turned into a huge thing.

Roy can you please link or quote the report you heard so I can read it.

It was on television (ESPN).  If I see it in print, I'll give you a link.  The gist of it was that Moss came into the locker room with the Pats trailing 7-6, and made a comment along the lines of "let's get something going in the second half", which led to words being exchanged, that then became heated.  However, it didn't sound like Moss was initially angry or yelling.

9 passes, 139 yards, and 3 TDs in the first three games, while being the best decoy in the game.  It's sort of like a great CB who doesn't get many INTs, because QBs won't throw in his direction.

Having a go-to guy in the end zone is important.  There's no need to diminish the play of Moss when defending the Pats.

In Boston they keep showing the clips of moss half running routes on monday night and then you hear Revis saying he gave up in the second half of the Jets game again.

I haven't seen the clips.  As far as Revis, I assume he's trying to get into Moss' head, since they're matched up Monday night and have a bit of a history of trash talk.  Since Revis didn't play in the second half of the Jets game, I wonder about his credibility.

Not to mention revis got toasted for a td by moss after trash talking him.

This speaks more of revis trying to downplay cromarte doing a much better job than he did

I disagree that the drafts since 08 have been good. We have no idea aboutthis years class yet, people thought maroney was going to be  a superstar based on his first 8 games.

Also, they better hope there is no lockout because if there is all those picks will be in one of the weakest drafts of all time. No underclassmen are coming out next year if there's a work stoppage.

And a top ten pick doesn't mean the seymore trade was a good one. They haven't really hit gold in the first round since 2006, a pick is very hit or miss for an established defensive lineman.
Pat Chung and Sebastian Vollmer are both future pro-bowlers. Along with three other starters, Ingram, Brace, and Butler, and thats from the 09 class alone.

The incoming class, we already have 4 starters from, and we're only four weeks in.

And the reason why we've been "hit or miss" on our first rounders is because we've been picking at the end of the first round. Look at bill's track record on his first rounders in the top 15:

Wilfork, Warren, Mayo, Seymour.

Bills track record for top 15, top 10 picks is very very good.

Cameron Hayward man, watch out.

did you really list long snapper jake ingram as a starter? he is in what like three plays all game?

as far as the trade....the pats are stupid on this....they had leverage over minnesota...min. needed a WR and loved moss....and you mean to tell me we wouldnt negotiate more than a 3 given the leverage we had?  We got a 1 for seymour who was nowhere near moss as far as talent right now. Two years in a row the pats trade away a key member on the team essentially waving the white flag midseason. I'm done w/ this team

Moss came here with a reputation as a malcontent.  When a malcontent is really talented, he can be a good risk in the short term, as a change of scenery is usually the best thing that can happen to them.  It gives them a chance to disprove their bad rep.  So they can give their new team a good season or two, before sliding back into their old ways.  The key is to be prepared for this slide, and cut them loose before they drag the team down.
Moss gave the Pats one super season, followed by a decent one, but has been erratic since (and has been erratic so far this year).  They waited four games to see if they had enough weapons to win without him, and figured they did.  So they moved him to Minn. where he'll probably give them a great season or two.  But the Pats' time to move him on was now.
They end up with a third rounder, which is what they paid for him in the first place (I think).

Get Mankins back and the loss of Moss becomes close to a 'push'.  In other words, providing Brady with 1/2 second more time on average to find a receiver is tantamount to replacing Moss with an equally effective wideout.  The loss of Moss obviously is a downgrade, but I'd still put wide receiver low on my needs list for the Pats:
1) Pass rush
2) Strengthen secondary (specificaly cornerback)
3) Running back depth

With a good defense, the Pats are a contender with or without Moss. With their defense as is, the Pats are borderline playoffs with or without Moss.

Draft day should be fun.

Of course, nothing stopped the Pats from keeping both of them.  I just don't get the team's thinking, when the league is wide open this year.

With such a young and impressionable team you don't keep headcases no matter how talented.

BB is not a complete idiot.  Neither is Kraft.
There is clearly more here than meets the eye (regarding locker room stuff), regardless of what might be said on ESPN or some talk radio show.

Decent take by Mike Reiss:
http://sports.espn.go.com/boston/nfl/columns/story?columnist=reiss_mike&id=5656282

Basic recap:
-NE didn't get value in return, and that's no secret to anyone, certainly no secret to the Pats organization.
-So why did they do it?  Reiss doesn't know, but imagines it has to do with BB seeing that there was trouble brewing, and thought it better to nip it in the bud early in the season rather than have it simmer for a while longer before exploding.

Troy Brown referenced an akward plain ride home from Miami. He said that Randy Moss was flat out ignoring Belichick and some of his (former) teammates.
