does anyone know? All i know is that he was invited to training camp, and that now, he's got a legit shot of "dethroning" Wafer as our 15th man. Who is this guy? Anyone have a "scouting report" or anything?

ShamSports actually broke down every camp signing in the league. It's a great read but for real NBA heads only.

It transpires that Lafayette was waived to accommodate former Hawks guard, Mario West. West has had a lot of tryouts with teams this summer, including the Celtics and the Spurs, because teams love his athleticism and his defensive hustle. But in 3 years, Mario also showed that he can barely make a shot. In fact, in three years, 156 games and 681 minutes with Atlanta, West made precisely 47 shots. He totalled 132 points, 131 rebounds and 122 fouls. He's in there for defensive purposes, often in one possession situations, and he isn't bad at that. But can any team afford to carry a player on their roster with such limited usage? Atlanta thought they could, but Boston surely can't.

West was a walk-on at Georgia Tech who became team captain.  He was an undrafted player who made the NBA with the Hawks.  He played a couple of seasons with Atlanta, then ended up in the D-League with Maine last season, before the Hawks re-signed him because he was familiar with their system.

He literally would play one defensive possession in Atlanta, with timeouts being burned to sub him in and out of the game.

He's your typical athletic hometown player who played ball at a local school and hustled his way into a roster spot.  Keep that in mind the next time you get excited about some offensively challenged, defensive-minded UMass or UConn player.

I watched him during the pre-game warmups on Sunday. His shot looks _horrible_. And I mean Tony-Allen caliber horrible. He shoots from his nose, with two hands. I don't think he'll make the squad, because he's an absolute offensive liability.

You read this article?

http://espn.go.com/blog/boston/celtics/post/_/id/4676985/can-west-push-wafer

Quote
In his three seasons with Atlanta, West put up 104 shots. According to his shot chart at HoopData.com, only 20 of those shots came from beyond 10 feet. What's more, West only made two of those shots (10 percent). Both West and Wafer can attack the basket, but Wafer has the outside game to complement that skill.

Now, this article is a little old, it was very much discounting the possibility of Lasme winning that last spot and it was before Wafer completely Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. the bed.  Still, haven't seen anything to indicate he's improved his jumper at all.

That's a good sign, actually, because I thought he was clearly worse than Tony Allen on offense.

He is, because Tony Allen can actually handle the ball a pinch, make some plays happen, and score on a drive here and there. West can't do that.

He banked home a free throw last night...so there's that.

If he makes the team it will be to push guys in practice with his toughness on defense. If we were ever to rely on this guy for minutes, the roster would have to be in shambles.

The question becomes do we want Wafer with the seemingly terrible attitude, or West with nn real shot at contributing any offense rotting on our bench.

Ill take the guy who is more likely to be a great towel waiver and good practice body in West.

If I am wrong about Von's attitude though he should win the spot.

Eh, forget about him.  You'll probably never see him again anyway after preseason is over.

Let me rephrase.  Everything I have heard points to Mario West being clearly inferior to Tony Allen when it comes to making jump shots.

With Lasme on the scene, that doesn't seem to be the question any more.
