West was a walk-on at Georgia Tech who became team captain. He was an undrafted player who made the NBA with the Hawks. He played a couple of seasons with Atlanta, then ended up in the D-League with Maine last season, before the Hawks re-signed him because he was familiar with their system.
He literally would play one defensive possession in Atlanta, with timeouts being burned to sub him in and out of the game.
He's your typical athletic hometown player who played ball at a local school and hustled his way into a roster spot. Keep that in mind the next time you get excited about some offensively challenged, defensive-minded UMass or UConn player.
