On Real GM we have Stephane Lasme signed for this year. I'm sure the contract is non guaranteed or maybe a training camp contract, but...

I know nearly nothing about this kid. His profile says he's 6'8" and 220, runs the court like a guard, has rare lateral quickness for a guy his size, long arms and is a good shot blocker, rebounder and a great "athlete".

My question is, has anyone seen him play much and is it possible he could be a good defender at the three spot; a defensive specialist guy? Just rebound, defend and work hard...and all effort guy.

With all the offense we'll have on this team this year, is he a guy who could be a defensive stopper for us? Or is he just not that good?

I know it's a long shot, but maybe it's between he and Gaffney for the 3rd string SF spot as a "defensive guy" off the bench.

I'd be curious of anyone's input on the guy if you've seen him play.

Thanks.

Last I saw him, two years ago in NBA (Miami SL team), Lasme was a poor defender + very poor rebounder + very weak offensive player. Not an NBA caliber player.

He was a very good weakside shot-blocker but the rest of his defensive work was well below par.

After two years in Europe ... he might have honed up on that weakness and become a solid overall defender. I haven't seen him since so I can't say but it's possible. I don't hold much optimism on his rebounding or offensive game showing drastic improvement though.

If he is on the C's training camp roster, I would be amazed if Lasme made the cut. A near certainty to be waived.

Lasme is another UMass guy like Gaffney. He is a more polished low post player thank Gaffney is, but doesnt have much of an out side shot. Either way neither will be relied on much for their offense. Defensively both won A10 DPOY honors as Sr's, and were top 5 in the country in blocks. Lasme definitely is the better athlete, though I believe gaffneys game is a little more polished.

Lasme came to the US not really knowing the game of bball, walking onto the court with out checking in at the scorrers table his first game of his career. He made huge strides in his four years at Umass and passed Camby for school record in blocks. He is very coachable and athletic.

At the college level (UMass), Lasme was a very good rebounder and defender, and was of course always a big-time shot blocker.  His numbers playing very limited time for the Heat, and then in the Euro League, are respectable, but I haven't seen him play since his UMass days.

One of his big problems is that he's undersized for an NBA power forward, and doesn't have the speed or scoring ability to be a SF.  As Who said, he's always seemed to be more of a shot-blocker / team defender, rather than a one-on-one lock down type of guy.

In a way, he's sort of like Sean Williams without the antisocial personality.

He was drafted by Golden State, but I believe he never made it past training camp......then played a few games with the Heat at the end of the season

Little offense, but good defense/shot blocking....Gaffney has a little more height and tools

Thanks for the feed back.  I was thinking maybe with his athletic ability and long arms, he had an outside shot at becomign a defenseive specialist at the three spot. But doesn't sound like it.

Excellent insight into a player I would normally not know about until camp starts and a few preseason games are played. Thank you Roy. If he's anything like Sean Williams physically and not mentally I can get behind him.

Pretty much.. Kind of like Gaffney, and he's already a long shot making the team despite allegedly developing some SF skills.

True. I watched him in euroleague. His offense is still non existent, a mediocre rebounder, good one on one defender (for europe), great shot blocker.

He can't play 3, and it will hard for him to play 4 in NBA because of his size. He was already signed with a Russian team but had to return to US because of some immigration problems.

  • You know my methods, Watson.
just remove the "s" in his last name...  this guy is a training camp body and nothing more.

I wanted Danny to draft this kid in the 2nd rd a few years ago. love his shot blocking and aggresive D

He looked really good tonight and looks like he is strong and athletic enough to give lebron trouble like TA did last year. Cut either wafer or Harangody , but please  keep Lasme!

it will be interesting to see if Lasme can keep this up. he had a very good showing in his first preseason game. will be keeping an eye on him in tomorrow's game.

Mario West and Von Wafer...they aren't needed. Thats what I took from tonight's game.

Would love to see this kid make the roster. Loved what I saw from him tonight. Would have no problem keeping him over Harongody, both Wests, and even Wafer.
