I thought Davis played quite well last night. I'm firmly in the camp (for now) of "there may very well be a potential midseason trade in which giving away Davis makes the C's stronger and I don't see him as a top 5 player on a legit playoff team unless the other players are really really really good, i.e. not a true "building block" (which, of course, loosely translates to "Baby Hating").
That being said, I give him credit because I thought he played quite well.
Now here's the thing. Even though he played well, when I looked back at the boxscore, he still amassed 13 points, 5 rebounds, 1 block in 29 minutes. He managed to do so on 6-7 shooting, which is clearly not sustainable. Those are simply not close to "star" or "very good starter" numbers, and that seems to be his ceiling...which is very good as a bench piece. Clearly, if he plays this way all year, he will be a valuable bench piece, and if he was suddenly stripped from our team for nothing, it would hurt. However, if the right trade came along, I still don't think he's irreplaceable; I doubt he'll get traded but if he did, it could improve the team.
