I'll open up team of the future nominations and discussion today. We'll have open voting in this thread after we've whittled the list down a bit. Any non-playoff team is eligible, so if you were in the playoffs tough noogies! (otherwise LeBron/Durant/Howard would probably dominate this category as well!)

So which team has the brightest future? In the West two pop out to me, Portland and Golden State. In the east I like Detroit. Who am I forgetting?

If only non-playoff teams count, in addition to the teams above I'd nominate:

Celtics
76ers
Spurs
Grizzlies

If playoff teams count, I think Chicago (Noah, Ilyasova, Lebron, Jennings) is the clear winner, with New Orleans also deserving a nomination (Cousins, Horford, Gordon, Holiday).

If playoff teams *don't* count, I like Portland best.

If a team just made the Finals its hard to say they're the team of the "Future".

New Orleans has more of a case I suppose.

I'd say Chicago is both a team of the present and a team of the future.  Their core is in place, and they're only going to get better as they add pieces.

Their four best players are 21, 23, 25, and 25, with a couple of other guys with some potential on the roster.  I think Chicago will be good for a long time.

I mean, if the question was "Which of these teams, if they keep their core intact, is most likely to win a championship in 2015?", I'm saying Chicago.

(Well, I'd say Sacramento, because that's just the way I am.  But Chicago would be second. ;)

Good god, what a blunder. And to think, I even almost threw in Kosta Koufos.

Dwight Howard
Greg Monroe / Ed Davis
Terrence Williams
Wesley Matthews / Rudy Fernandez
Dominique Jones

Portland and Golden State for me are the clear one two punch here. At least for me.

Detroit and Memphis also require some very, very serious consideration.

New Orleans, Atlanta, Chicago and Phoenix all have formidable future teams that made the playoffs.

I'm still getting over the fact that in the past two drafts I haven't been able to grab him.

FWIW -- 4 of Denver's West. Conf. Semi-finals team's 5 starters are under 24:

Westbrook, M.Thornton, Ariza, Taj Giboson (+ Duncan)...

2 of our top 4 bench guys are too: Milicic, R.Brewer

Of course to be TOF we'd have to replace Duncan with a star and/or have Westbrook/Milicic take large respective leaps forward.

I thought New Orleans was a great "Team of the Future" candidate but if we're talking non-playoff teams, Portland & Detroit are two that immediately jump to mind.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Superstar for another 6-8 years: LeBron James
Guaranteed to be an above average player for the next 10 years: Brandon Jennings, Joakim Noah
Might be something really special, but already a good role player: Ersan Ilyasova
30 years old or under and a reliable role player: Tony Allen, Mike Miller
Rookies we don't know anything about: Landry Fields, Gani Lawal, Omer Asik

I dunno....here today, and here tomorrow???
